NPC Predictions

  • Most Tries:
Salesi Rayasi. Still raw, but a great finisher at this level.

    Break through player:
Waimana Riedlinger-Kapa. Assuming he gets enough game time

    1st Div Regular Season Winner
    Tasman. Too much depth.

    1st Div Winner
Tasman. Their comp too lose.. others just making up the numbers

    2nd Div Regular Season Winner
Taranaki. Should be more consistent than the other 2nd div teams

    2nd Div Winner
BOP. I think only Waikato have bounced straight back to the 1st division under this format. I expect Taranaki to trip up in one of the knock out games. BOP a dark horse.

    Relgated
Counties. Lower 1st division will be tight. NH a strong chance too drop because of lack of quality at ten. I think NH's pack will keep them in more games than Counties though

    Wooden Spoon
    Southland

My team? Auckland to be strong again. I think they'll get narrowly beaten in an away Semi or Final to against Tasman

  • Most Tries:
    Naholo or Havili

    Break through player:
Flanders the loosey from the bay or Fakatava the HB as Weber will likely be away at RWC don't follow enough other teams non-super players.

    1st Div Winner
    Tasman.

    2nd Div Winner
Magpies....think we have a decent team so am going to be bias. Top three sides should all be pretty competitive.

    Relgated
Counties unless Read doesn't make the final RWC squad and leads them to the finals.

    Wooden Spoon
Northland (just said it because I think it will annoy more northlanders in this forum.

  • Who was the predicted top try scorer before last year's comp?

  • @Bovidae can't answer that but just checked and can confirm Southland outsocred Sevu Reece 23tries to 14.

Who was the predicted top try scorer before last year's comp?

Not sure, but that guy that can't tackle (men) got the most tries

    What are your predictions?

  • Most Tries:
    Will Jordan

    Break through player:
I might have been biased and picked Tupaea but he did that last year. Tupou Vaa’i.

    1st Div Winner
    Tasman

    2nd Div Winner
    Taranaki

    Relegated
Counties. I'm just hoping Waikato stay up.

    Wooden Spoon
    Southland

  • Most Tries:
Vince Aso: if he plays a full season he has all the tricks in the bag to score a truck load of tries. I hope he stays injury free because he is fun to watch.

    Break through player:
Lincoln McLutchie: A young talent who will want to push his case for a Super Rugby contract and nail down the Hawkes 10 jersey. I expect him to go well.

    1st Div Regular Season Winner
    Tasman.

    1st Div Winner
Tasman. They wouldn’t look out of place in Super Rugby.

    2nd Div Regular Season Winner
BOP: stab in the dark but they look to have a settled squad.

    2nd Div Winner
    BOP.

    Relgated
Counties. Just don’t think they have enough big names to compete.

    Wooden Spoon
    Southland

My team? Wellington. I think they will be losing semi-finalists away against Tasman. Plenty of firepower in the backs but not enough in the forwards to get the job done.

  • Most Tries:
    Will Jordan

    Break through player:
Not sure if he qualifies, but I'll go with Tanielu Tele'a. Didn't play much last season, but should get plenty of game time this year.

    1st Div Winner:
    Tasman

    2nd Div Winner:
Between Taranaki and Otago for me. If Josh Ioane doesn't go to the RWC, I'll go with Otago. They were finalists last season and they tend to perform better than their team on paper.

    Relegated:
    Counties

    Wooden Spoon:
    Southland

  • @Magpie_in_aus

    Most Tries:
    Naholo
    Break through player:
Pisi Leilua or Temo Mayanavanua (am sure other teams will have thiers, but dont follow thier club footy to have a clue)
    1st Div Winner
    Tasman.
    2nd Div Winner
Taranaki, look stronger this season, and someone like Naholo should carve up at this level and with naki always having solid forwards, it should make his job easier, if all goes well (injury wise as well) I think Northland will be beaten finalists
    Relgated
Waikato if Reece makes the RWC squad, if not, Counties
    Wooden Spoon
I'd like HB to be last, cos they is cnuts, and not the good kind 😉 but thinking it will be Southland again, they have a big hill to climb.

  • Most Tries:
    Naholo

    Break through player:
I'm with @Magpie_in_aus in that I think Flanders is going to have a big season. I think Fakatava has probably already broken through.

    1st Div Winner
The Invitational XV ... oh, you need some clarification? Not the ones in red n black and not the Naki. @Chris-B's favourite sons.

    2nd Div Winner
Magpies. Can't ever bet against them. Have a good mostly home grown squad, and I hope they play the home grown guys mostly.

    Relgated
    North Harbour

    Wooden Spoon
So hard to pick, I'd like it to be Northland (just due to @taniwharugby's comments below) , Southland, BoP and the Poo. But, I think it will be Southland.

    Which one?

The older one, the younger one is dead to me after he spurned us for the Naki Invitational XV ... and I'm still not convinced about how good he is yet, he was on the end of an awesome backline.

  • A few of us got Tasman & BOP with Counties relegated

  • Who ended up as the top try scorer?
