I'd rather be a Tahs fan right now than a Rebels fan.
Tahs have a lot of young talent.
Rebels have ?
Better coffee.
I think that is the biggest myth perpetuated in Australia.

Not at all, I just think Melbourne coffee is hugely overrated.
Unlike the restaurants which are awesome.

@nepia there's some good coffee in Wellington. And Adelaide. And Sydney-although then you have to deal with inner city Sydney types..
But to diss Melbourne coffee as "is the biggest myth perpetuated in Australia" is not to know Australia (let alone its politics).. -

Just because you have cafes run by mafia looking people doesn't mean the coffee is any good.

I think you'll find they have very nice houses in Kew and Brighton and actually run Carlton restaurants a block from the University of Melbourne.
As to mafia-looking, I could not wear my black leather jacket in Leichhardt Sydney (when I lived there, back when it actually made good Italian coffee) because everyone looked at me with fear in their eyes..

Ah, that old chestnut, great coffee in Melbourne if you can find the right cafes.

Jesus, I'd be lucky to get by without reaching double digits - when I worked in Sydney, my weekly coffee budget was around $200, plus the extra ones I'd get for loyalty cards etc. I even had a sign on my desk not to approach or talk to me unless they were certain I'd had my second coffee.
One of the pleasant things about returning to Welly after 20+ years away was to see that Midnight Espresso and Deluxe (by the embassy) were still going strong.

Max coffee from Kerikeri is good, they have thier coffee around Northland, are a few spots outside Northland.

Can't go past Allpress espresso blend
One thing Allpress have always done is make sure that any place using their coffee is trained properly. That was a godsend in London where a majority of places were as awful as Costa. Plenty of good places once you knew where they were but if somewhere new and taking a chance there was an 80% chance of shit.
I'm a fan of Supreme Boxer Blend. It just seems to marry well with my machine at home. The best thing though is that I can usually get it no more than a few days old and my setup works much much better with really freshly roasted. Probably just because I am a tight arse on buying a grinder and have modded a domestic Bodum one to get the grind I need.
