Cricket: NZ vs Aus

  • So bring it on!!!!!
    Oz in Oz!!!
It’s our best opportunity to win over here but the Ghosts of cricket past still haunt me.
Whitney holding Hadlee at bay in particular!
Can get $4 on the NZ and $8 on the draw so I took both of those.
If we bowl first I reckon they’ll struggle to bowl us out twice.
How often has that happened in the last few years?
Going to the Sydney Test with my 21 & 23 year old boys who have not experienced “real” cricket!
NZ playing in Perth at the MCG and SCG will be lucky if I live long enough to see that again!!!
    Ultimate Summer of Cricket!!

Fucking hollow. That LB was so fucking plumb McDermott should have walked. Unless it was going under.

    Fuck.

    That is all.

  • @Xpat61 I'm too haunted.

I fear we're going to end up wishing we had a couple of 6'6 bowlers who can bowl 145+ kmh.

  • @booboo said it before, but it's nostalgia time. I asked Whitney about it. He told me his teenage son, Fergus, once watched a replay and exclaimed, that's ssooo plumb Dad. Mike couldn't deny it.

I'm bricking myself about this series. Don't actually mind losing but can't shake the history, in Oz, demons. So much want us to sneak up on the Aussies - as modest and humble as they are!

  • @booboo
Do not start on the Oz in Oz decisions
    The Sneddon catch?

  • @Chris-B
    Or one!

  • @Xpat61 said in Cricket: NZ vs England:

I'm still spitting about 'it could ahve come from anywhere'. FFS, thankfully modern DRS is much better than that - I think that was early doors. Still, cost us a very very rare chance of a win

  • @Xpat61 said in Cricket: NZ vs England:

There were several bad calls in that match. Aussie umpires were as bad as south African rugby refs back then

  • well i have boxing day tickets (so it will probably rain)..

if it doesn't rain, then I look forward to attending a once in a 30 year outing...just need to decide on clothing and choice of sandpaper

  • Several dodgy decisions to save the series for Oz in this one, as well.

Ian Robinson responsible mainly responsible, as I recall.

  • @Chris-B big Steve Waugh nick off Vettori to Parore....

  • @Siam Yep - Gillespie clearly out but not given as well.

  • We’re caught in a trap!!!
From my understanding not one of the NZ team contesting this series has played at any of the three grounds!
Oz coming off a Pink ball test into one!
    No warm up match?
Feels like Wales taking on The ABs.
    Good luck with that.......
However we have the best team we have ever put out against Oz barring one opener who looks like a BC of days of yore!
Should we throw him or someone else to the wolves?
He’s already lacking any sense of confidence so why not chuck someone in who is not totally failing in their role?

That one was the absolute worst. Just reading that phrase makes me angry.

  • @TeWaio
    Deans try 1905 as well!!
    Bastards!!!

  • @Xpat61 I'm loving your enthusiasm!

  • Lance Cairns no ball v Jim Higgs

Chris Cairns to Langer 4th ball of the first test 2000/01 at Brisbane

Greg Dyer in the above mentioned test.

    Never forget.
    Never forgive.
    🙂

  • @voodoo
This is the first time in 25 years (please correct me if wrong stats dudes) that the New Zealand Cricket Team have been given the big three venues!
The Oz public are pretty ambivilous cause its just The Kiwis and Wagner (who they’ve never heard of) is ranked 3rd in the world and just taken 2 Michelle’s?
Our best batsmen are both coming off undefeated centuries?
What’s not to be excited about 🤓

  • @booboo another doozy was an ODI in Aus. Stephen Fleming batting. For 3 balls the Aussies had one too many in the outfield for that particular phase of the match.

Fleming, correctly, pointed this out to the umpire. The field was corrected, ( not the no balls of course), and Flem got fined 1500 bucks for bringing the game into disrepute!
    Challenging an umpire !😂

Edit: got a few details wrong but the jist remains

Short memory. Rosco completed the highest innings scored by an overseas batsman as he and Kane put on a 265 run partnership

That was that WACA. There's a new stadium in Perth now.

  • Looking forward to this series, but keeping a lid on expectations.

I’m probably scared from a lifetime of seeing the BCs be beaten up over there.

I'm rather optimistic about this series. We don't get thumped any more. Our batting backbone has never been so solid.

We may not win the series but I bet we don't capitulate and get rolled easily.

I'm predicting a series win to the black caps. There! I've said it.

  • If the tour does go sideways I suspect it will be more due to us chasing leather than major batting collapses.

I see how we can get enough runs to win, but I'm not sure where the 20 wickets are coming from without a session of madness from Australia.

I think if we have Boult back and start Lockie in Perth with Wagner getting rid of the tail, I can imagine us getting 20 wickets. I am being optimistic though, I do understand that

  • Don't leave Santner out of the equation. Steve Smith's average halves against left arm orthodox and movement away from the bat is his area of 'weakness'.
You would never bowl a turning off spinner against Smith, he'll just pick you off the legs all day long. A leftie (in form) could be a good option though, especially if they have a top spinner to get some extra bounce.

  • The rabble that was Oz without Smith would have been a relatively easy contest.

With him back. It's not just his own brilliance its the balance he brings to the side and the rise in confidence he gives them.

I would love to beat those bastards. Too many decades of patronising and cheating but I think it's big ask.

    Here's hoping. Bring It On.

A consolation would be a series loss but getting Davey Dumb Dumb out cheaply every innings.

  • @Crucial I really wanted Paine to declare when he was in the 390's.....

Yeah, a slight element of payback from Paine in that declaration.

Don't start him or he will be regaling us with tales of how Pinetree set out with murderous intent from the day he crossed paths with Ken Catchpole.

  • Really looking forward to this, and the series schedule lines up well for NZ if things go their way.

Pink ball tests are always a bit of a lottery, and if you avoid batting at dusk then you can generally score well. You'd think the toss would be pretty important.

Then to Melbourne which has been dead, flat and slow for years. Tough pitch to get a result.

So if NZ can get some luck in the first test then there's every chance you head to Sydney 1-0 up, and that test has been dogged by rain for the last ten years.

On our side of the equation, the Pakistan series came at a great time. Warner is now back in form, and Marnus is red hot. Smith has yet to fire a shot, which should worry the Kiwi bowlers. And our quicks are bowling as well as ever.

I'll tip an Australian win, but a tied series or a Kiwi win wouldn't shock me.

Cricket and umpires was actually the list above, but thread diversions have happened before I think... He did say refs, so yes Ken may well be bought up although I don't believe it was a Kiwi ref?

Come on, you been around long enough. Have you not learned that thread diversions are the norm and you were inviting Nick to tee off on anything Oz/Kiwi related in a one eyed view of injustice.

Tell you what gents: you start your grudge list of bad South African refs and we'll see where we end up.
