Lockdown/Covid Check In
-
Status Update:
Job hunting has been interesting, and the interviews even more so - I'll leave it at that, although I am not surprised at the lack of basic reading and listening comprehension skills of several interviewers.
Highlight of the last fortnight: someone actually apologetically told me I looked like Lenin, but I took pity on them and didn't admit that was the exact plan.I have a part time gig cleaning the lodge five days a week - minimum wage, but it keeps me focused and active. Plus I get to be THAT GUY when I see people ignoring basic hygiene and not cleaning up after themselves in the kitchen and dining room.
Some decent new arrivals lately, including a young woman from the same part of France where my daughters are living - nice to be able to get my spoken french back on track and up to speed, although she did make the point that my French betrays my age nicely.

@SynicBast If it's your French that's giving away your age, you're doing well!

Missing some important details there man.
Like how hot the french chick is.

I'm intrigued as to what you said?
"A gentleman does not kiss and tell young lady so little peck on the check is fine. Tallyho"?
My french isn't good enough to translate that, but tallyho works on several levels.

okay, she's bloody cute. Stats: about 165cm and in my view, curvy where it counts. Adorable voice and amazing eyes, Brunette. Sharp as a tack but has an impish sense of humour . But about 20 years too young for men (dammit). Has the right name as well, Amélie. And naturally I'm the only kiwi she's met who can pronounce it properly.
I gave her my daughter's contact details in Malpas/Cussac-sur-Loire in case she needs a temp job when she returns.

Just the vocabulary and sentence structure - it's very 1970s/1980s as that was the period I initially learned it and very much the time I spoke and thought in French a great deal (two years living in Paris trying to make it as an artist and writer contributed greatly)

Perhaps less Mr Darcy and more Lord Flashheart?

Fuck if only I could fucking paint portraits, but sadly I'm just not talented - buildings and man made structures I can do, and basic landscapes , but my portraits are like a bad version of dali without the imagination

@SynicBast See what you have started now?
We're going to need some form of humour now, so just setting the scene ahead of time

@SynicBast Good lead in work there then. French chicks. Might upset a few of the Polish ones, but meh.
I was best man at a Polish girl's wedding back inthe eighties and ended uphandling her divorce as well, they hold no mystery or fear for me. French women, howver, terrify me (in a good way, as a moth to a flame)
