A stellar year in 2015 to the the forgotten man of NZ rugby in 2016.

The Canes desperately need Broadhurst back in their tight five heading into the latter rounds of Super Rugby this year.

He has been out since the middle of the ITM Cup in 2015 with concussion problems and hasn't yet been sighted in 2016.

Does anyone know when Broadhurst is meant to return or have I missed something and has he been ruled out for the rest of the year??

I hope we do not have another Afeaki case on our hands. That would be such a shame for a player that cracked the All Blacks in 2015 and was starting to show his true potential.

Last I read he was still having headaches.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/77055877/james-broadhursts-concussion-headache-wont-go-away

If he hasn't played by now this super season, I doubt he will. Even if the symptoms have gone away he might as well be cautious and wait till NPC.

Was chatting today with a mate who works pretty closely with the Canes and he reckons it's extremely unlikely he'll ever play again. Better to be safe than sorry.

Ditto. Reports that he's still getting the headaches does not bode well for a return to any form of rugby.

Stories like this really need to hammer home to everyone the dangers in continuing with a head knock.

not good when players are forced to leave the game through injury, which is where you hope they, along with thier manager/agent have managed to ensure they have done some work on the finances and a plan for when the rugby finishes.

Shame for the big guy, looked like he was really starting to realise his potential last year.

She's a cruel mistress is professional sport. After years of under-achieving, he finally steps up, has a breakout year, and has it taken away from him. That sucks.

It's obviously the double whammy that's done the damage. Lots of guys have had multiple knocks ( Leon MacDonald ) but have had them spaced out enough to prevent long term damage in most cases.

But all in all better to give up while still relatively healthy than being the punch drunk oaf who goes on about how tough he was for playing again when he shouldn't have.

Aw man. had forgotten he was out with head issues. Really hope that settles down irrespective of whether he makes it back to rugby. That'd be an awful thing to live with for the rest of your life.

He'd just started to hit his straps too - like he'd realised he was a big fucking unit and started playing like one!

More likely is that Leon MacDonald played at a time where barely anyone gave a crap about concussions, so players like him just played through the headaches.

Gutted for Broadhurst, hopefully the NZRU, NZPA and Hurricanes look after him moving forward.

Dammit. He was killing it last year and could have had more opportunities in black this year. Not fair.

Pretty sure that the three week standdown was in action when he played. He was still a pro his whole career if memory serves.

Hope it's not the case that he is finished, but if he has been out this long then something is obviously seriously wrong.
