Hurricanes 2017 - Can they go back to back?

  • Now that the Canes have got the monkey off their back there is a very good chance they could go back to back.

They will only get stronger with the pending return of Nehe Milner Skudder and Broadhurst coming back into the fray next season.

Boyd and Plum only have a few spots left to fill, though most signings haven't been released I'd expect the squad would look something like this next season:

    Props:

    • Loni Uhila
    • Reggie Goodes
    • Chris Eves
    • Jeff Toomaga Allen

    • Nehe Milner Skudder
    • Jason Woodward

  • Fuck a bit premature for this don't you think?

  • If they decide to create a legacy then they have the personnel to do it. That forward pack is very underrated and will continue flying under the radar. the back line will only get better

  • Fuck a bit premature for this don't you think?

    Stretch the afterglow

  • As someone who waited a long time for his team to win the title:
    FFS!
Give it at least 72 hours to enjoy this one.

  • Yeah back in your box cane fans. Enough rugby charity for now. 🙂

  • Yeah back in your box cane fans. Enough rugby charity for now. 🙂

How many super 18 titles has your team won mate?

  • This is why I feared a Canes victory . . .

  • It depends on whether they make a pact or not.

  • The Canes are my team and I've waited a long long time to see them raise the cup.  It feels a bit like RWC11, relief, and I think I'll enjoy the victory rather than think ahead to any sort of dynasty.  The pressure is off next season, if we go well so be it but we'll always have 2016 :drinks:

  • More chance of one of us lacing up the boots for the Canes than Broadhurst. He's gone.

Where's the big Wellington College superstar you were pumping a few months ago ?

That's a bit how it felt for some of us landers fans lsat year. A warm glow replacing the fuck will we ecer win this thing? musings
    You've got a serene 12 months ahead

Gone from rugby?  Sad for him if true

Hardest thing for me was watching my fav team lose to my second team (via uni time spent there).  The Highlanders had suffered their fair share of heartache too and I was happy it was them if anyone. I know what you mean Siam, 2012 was a sweeeet year for me

  • It depends on whether they make a pact or not.
    Journey first. Then pact.

  • I don't think the Canes will do three finals in a row. I think part of this year's success was driven by the disappointment of last year. Not a factor any longer.

  • At least let then get past mad monday before you lock in next years team.

  • Beauden will be good enough to win it on his own next year wont he?

    Journey first. Then pact.

The journey is a proven fail.

  • Sssssh!

Seriously, wtf is the point of this thread?

I'm quite impressed that Canes4life is sober enough to post so soon after the game.

Something like this, but wearing a yellow and black jersey

"I don't think he's likely to play much Mitre 10 Cup this year, because twofold, he needs to get over his symptoms, and he hasn't done anything physically for 12 months, so he's got a bit to do to get into condition to play Super Rugby. He resembles a javelin at the moment and has lost a bit fair bit of condition.

Sounds like Broadhurst will be back at some point.

  • Something like this, but wearing an Ardie Savea wig

    Fixed

It's funny with these kinds of victories. Like 2011, I was more relieved than anything. I had a couple of beers during the game but had no desire to get pissed and go wild. But I guess it's very different if you're there or at a pub.
Tbh I'm still trying to get my head around it all. After round one I was just hoping they wouldn't get tonked in every game. That they finished first and won every finals game without conceding a try is straight out absurd.

  • The canes hit some form at the right time, had a few players come of age....but were pretty lucky as well....qualified top through dominos falling just the right way, played the ordinary sharks in quarters, then a jetlagged Chief team who decided to get the dropsys and the final against a team also looking to break its duck who were nervous and made a few poor decisions.
When Boyd/plum say they were thinking it was a rebuilding year and would be lucky to make playoffs, even they are surprised the canes won.
The TLDR version is I doubt we're looking a dynasty.

  • This is a bloody brilliant thread. Some of you are whining like jealous women.
Seeing the Canes win the Super title was sweet, but the challenge now is to become the dominant squad in Super Rugby for the next few years. Not easy at all.
Milner-Skudder coming back and Julian Savea sorting out his problems will make that back line even better. I'd like to see both Jordie and Scott Barrett join their big bro at the Hurricanes if possible. Sam Whitelock and Aaron Smith are welcome to come home too. Need to find a replacement for Victor Vito.
Lots of great sides in Super Rugby but I think all of them would like to have Dane Coles and Beauden Barrett that is for sure.

  • Is mark Abbott back next season?

  • I for one, can't quite get my head around how awesome we will be once we've completed our rebuilding year. The mind can't quite cope with the possibilities.

    They will only get stronger

Complete lack of ambition in that goal.

You could have seven titles by 2022.......like us.  🙂

  • Well, the Crusaders will have a coach next year, so that'll make things interesting 🙂

The Chiefs will be trying to find their way to the stadium from Firecats...

  • Complete lack of ambition in that goal.

So you are predicting the Crusaders title drought to continue at least 6 more years?

  • So you are predicting the Crusaders title drought to continue at least 6 more years?

No - now that Toddy's humbly let things slide to the point that we've only won one-third of the Super competitions, I gather Hamish Riach has saved enough money to build an extension to the trophy cabinet and Razor is under orders to get things back to 50% - coincidentally, by 2022.

  • Complete lack of ambition in that goal.

    Hurricanes super 18 titles-1
Crusaders super 18 titles-0 nada zilch zip etc .

Ah - but, we still have a chance at winning a Super 18 title - unlike those who couldn't fill their boots during the elite comps.

There were six less teams in those comps , we were waiting for a decent challenge.

Super rugby is like a good whisky - you guys just won the watered down Wilson's version!  🙂

  • this thread started stupid, has taken several significant head knocks on the way, and is now borderline retarded.

    well done all involved.

  • I don't think anyone apart from canes4lifw was ever going to take this thread seriously.
