Having that settled is good, but only if the new board and management can make hard decisions.

As the discussion in the crowd thread shows, the way forward looks reasonably clear (our NPC-centric and non-NPC centric posters seem to align on the 8-10 team in converged Super/NPC competition idea).

I'm interested to see whether NZRU can get there. I won't hold my breath.

Realistically we will see no great changes to anything for a year or 2, I would imagine , or even want. It's only the board that runs things, and regardless of what we think/say in general there only needs to be tweeks to how the game is run at board level. Most fof it will be perhaps more commercial, and that all takes time stc.

NZR Chair Dame Patsy Reddy confirms decision not to reapply for the NZR Board

Dame Patsy and Dame Farah Palmer, who is due to rotate off the NZR Board, will work in conjunction with the Stakeholder Panel to establish the six-person Appointments and Remunerations Panel (ARP). They will be joined by current NZR President Matthew Cooper, whose role sits separate from the Board.

Let's see how good the new people are, if the incumbents aren't rated in the top 25 % of applicants, it could simply be a reflection on the lack of quality on the current board.

Alternatively, this could be good politics, if these come with baggage from the previous board, it's probably better for them to not be there and for the board to start with a clean slate.

100+ applicants into 9 does rather leave some winnowing required.

Nah, I think we (like other nations) have been sold a dummy with private equity. I thought it was the correct idea based on the sales pitch but there is no more money to be had. We'll be lucky to break even with the silver lake deal, same the abs recent performances (along with the all blacks 7s 🤮) isn't helping

The deal broke the first rule of finance. Don't sell equity

Not obvious what Silverlake actual brought to the table. Supposedly they were going to improve NZR's communication and technology and drive up revenue, but neither happened.

    It was a bad deal.

I still don't understand how they planned to drive up revenue when they aren't a sports management company, or a broadcast company

@canefan Looking at their website, their pitch seems to be something about "cultivating talent."

The point has been made before, but I'll make it again. Given NZR has signed a multi-million dollar contract with a technology company, the quality of the All Blacks website is laughable.

Allblacks.com has updated their stats page. It might look good but it's nowhere near as user friendly as the older website.

from their perspective, objective achieved. 'looks' is more important than substance for many decisionmakers
