@antipodean I thought they had quite often sent understrength sides to games in Europe, saving the full strength for home games and their big crowds.

Seems to work both ways doesn't it? Don't the European teams take weaker teams to SA? Thought I read an article about it, the idea of Saffa teams being there is good (financially), but noone seems to enjoy the travel?

@cgrant you missed the Stormers vs Sale Sharks game?

English clubs are rubbish compared to the French ones. Exeter were beaten 69-12 by Bordeaux in England, while Northampton and Harlequins were well beaten by Stade Français (ranked 13th in the Top 14) and Toulon.
BTW, the Stormers were beaten at home by Toulon.
Concerning the Sharks vs Toulouse game, Toulouse had to play in a heat which they were not accustomed and were fielding a side without Ahki, Cros, Roumat, Arnold and their new prodigy, Castro-Ferreira.

@Dan54 no idea, maybe it was just the media making more of the SA sides sending 'lesser' teams to the away fixture.

Guess it highlights the logistics of involving the SA sides, be it the NH or SH comps.

@cgrant I do agree on the French teams. T14 is by far the best club competition in rugby. The Saffer teams downfall at the moment is more the players who play all year. They need to have an 8 week break from rugby and it hasnt been figure out with the CC timing.

Caught up on the Saints - Bath game from two weeks ago. Upset as top of the table Bath lose in a nine try thriller at Franklin's Gardens. This sort of defence optional rugby is why England aren't winning RWCs. It might look entertaining to the average punter, but it ain't preparing them for Test rugby.

@MiketheSnow can't see the Leicester defence coach getting too many gigs in the near future. Mind you, didn't stop the England coach...

I watched three of the games over the weekend. The Clermont-Bristol game was entertaining but Bristol's desire to run everything from inside their 22 cost them a draw, and benefitted Clermont in the end. Luatua still looks useful.

Leicester and their four England squad players have been trounced by Toulouse : 80 - 12 ! Their defense was not optional, it was just non existent. Premiership leader Bath suffered a heavy defeat in Dublin (47 - 21) while Exeter were - again - crushed, this time by a very average team (52 - 24).

I can’t wait for Jones’ column if/when the SA teams are involved at the pointy end

    Lmao.

Didn't even make the quarters. Brutal.

No greater argument for keeping Test selection within national borders then watching your local franchises get embarrassed week to week and be completely shut out from the playoffs.

Huh? That doesn't make sense to me.... surely that's pointing to better players being outside of the national borders?

Doesn't it depend? How long is this Boks period of dominance going to last for? How many of these overseas players are nearing retirement? Will they be replaced by players from the franchises that are used to losing to NH teams?

Also, the fuckers are ruining our reputation by association, we've always claimed the rugby, if not the hype, is better in Super (and it was), now those twats are making liars out of us.

Surely the Boks would rather be in Super where they at least would get one team into the final four and on occasion could actually win it?

    Not another Razor apologist 🙄

The sooner our coach realises super form matters, the better. Aren't the boks being selected from outside national borders, mostly ones that proved their worth in super rugby? And most of the new players that have stepped up are playing for SA teams?

Am I being accused of being a Razor apologist? 😲

I'm with you, I was a fan of his selection as coach (despite the double negative of being a Cantab and from BoP), but he disappointed me with his selections.

That quoted part was having a go at the Saffas for not dominating NH rugby.

I never claimed they did, but I thought and I presume they thought thats they'd dominate in the NH.
