    That's far off Ken Laban.

Laban would of said: "Peter Umaga-Jensen out of Scots College, born and raised in Wainuiomata, I've watched him since he was a school boy, such a bright talent etc etc"... "TJ Perenara out of Mana College in Porirua. This kid has a big future ahead of him"etc etc. You get my drift. Same yarn every game he commentates.

Umaga Jensen to Shields on the second man play…….Oh he’s dropped it !

Wrong, Umaga-Jensen wouldn't have passed it in the first place. 😃

I get that this is a light-hearted poke, but that's not a bad thing. Formula one Comms are by far the best of any sport I watch and they're constantly rehashing stuff.

I prefer Laban over can't tell brown people apart Nisbett.

Imagine Nisbett trying to remember what school they went to and what they look like.

At least Laban takes an interest rather than some of the ignorant commentators/pundits.

Yeah never got the hate for Laban. As you mentioned, at least someone does a bit of research into the players, and his pronunciation of Pacific Island names is always on point. I think he's a great play by play commentator.

He's very community focused too, great guy but shit he was scary and gruff at Sunday touch growing up.

I’m actually a fan of Laban, he does his homework and is passionate for the job, but does get a bit repetitive at times having now listened to him for a long time. My old man worked with him when he was a cop, bloody good guy and definitely does a lot for his community. He’ll definitely be front and centre in Wainui for the Canes v Blues pre season game. In fact would be pretty cool if he commentated it and it was aired on Sky Sport, would be a special moment for him. Doubt SS would have thought of that though.

Can't stand him, he's dull as fuck talking about stuff that is irrelevant to the game at hand. That history is for the pre show, half time, or after. And his actual knowledge of what is going on is stuck back about twenty or more years ago.

Not saying that there are many that much better, for insightful commentary, you're mostly stuck with cheerleaders and stating the obvious types

Ken Laban makes for a great drinking game when watching rugby though - drink every time you hear a player's college, club, or province, and every time he says second man play.

The same would apply for every time Nisbett got a player's name wrong. Could spice it up and add shots for every time he gets a white guys name wrong as it happens slightly less frequently.

The thing that drives me most crazy about Nisbett, is his ridiculous exaggerations.
Someone may beat a tacker, and he will say he just been 4. It drives me batty. We can all see he didn't just beat 4.

Genuinely find there is not one commentator that doesn't piss a few people off. And I same.,some I don't like, though none piss me off too bad.
Probably because we hear them all the time, and if they sing the praises of someone we don't like or support , some immediatley get pissed with them.

As I said none piss me off too bad, but I seem to enjoy the ones we get from UK, and generally the Saffa ones. Might be just I don't hear them a lot?
