matale is probably next best option if not playing wrampling or rona
Ahio needs to step up . didn't do enough last year to get more than one game, need more than that

Yes, he seems to have been favoured over Malimali in the pre-season games. I suppose Mataele will be Poihipi's injury replacement too. No mention of who has replaced Sititi in the main squad. Jacob Norris I assume.

    A few more changes.

Is the flag thing new? Or have I missed it previously.

Has had me madly googling "yellow ensign" (turns out to be Niue), and "Cook Islands flag" (blue ensign with the circle of stars).

    Assume it shows their ethnicity/ancestry?

Interesting Ah Kuoi has a Chinese flag. Assume his name traces back to there.

    Cool idea.

I am stunned by the changes on the bench. The Taranaki props had a hell of a game when they came in against the Saders and I was expecting to watch them again this week against a strong Brumbies scrum.

Didn't know that. Always wondered about names like Ah Wong and Ah Kuoi. Assume there's the answer.

    Chinese in Samoa - Wikipedia

The majority of Chinese nationals currently residing in Samoa are businessmen, labour workers, and shopowners in the southwestern Pacific island nation of Samoa,[5] and there are at least 30,000 people in Samoa who are of mixed Samoan and Chinese descent,[6] although they are classified as ethnic Samoans in official census.[7] Around the world, about 25% of all Samoans claim Chinese ancestry. Nearly all Chinese nationals in Samoa reside within the Apia municipal area; neighbouring American Samoa,[8] also has a small population of Chinese expatriates.[9]

The replacement props were certainly good (and have proven pretty useful in the past) but also true that the Crusaders reserve props were pretty green so can't read too much into the dominance.

Yep Boo, we had a few Samoan boys called Chongnee in my club in Aus, have to admit it confused me a little for a while.

Dmac apparently out with a shoulder injury. Take this with a grain of salt but I'm hearing a dislocated AC joint.

I think he's annoyed that the Chiefs decided he was Pakeha only so is sitting out the game in protest.

Fair. Green, on the way back from injury, not at their best etc.

But either way, the two Taranaki props were the preferred bench props last year anyway so they're well regarded.
