Duke-Houston game was everything there is to like about college basketball, every play in that last 3 mins or so was massively impactful to the outcome.
Duke got out rebounded by 11 and the difference was those were offensive boards which kept Houston in the game.

It's always good to see Duke lose. Coach K didn't seem happy.
Hopefully Houston finally gets to cut down the net.
Was Houston's last time in the final the loss to NC State?
They lost the following year (1984) to Georgetown as well.

No way they should have lost, with the dream and Clyde

The rebounding foul on Flagg was so weak and so costly in the end

NC State were tough defensively. Thurl Bailey and Sidney Lowe could score but it was their stingy D that did the business. Their win over Virginia earlier in the Elite 8 was one of the games of the tournament.
Red hot favourites like Houston were don’t always pan out. Plus who would rewrite what has now become college folklore with the Jimmy V coached NC State upsetting the giants!
Then the next season with Clyde gone to the NBA it left the Dream, Michael Young and Alvin Franklin to take them to the promised land. But Ewing and Coach Thompson not only had the team, but the strategy to slow down this version of Phi Slamma Jamma.
Hoyas were a deep team by college standards and with their freshman Reggie Williams coming off the bench and lighting it up, they just had more firepower that day.
Go Florida.

And very happy for Paige and UConn. More so that Sth Carolina lost and the fact that Dawn Staley is annoying as hell

I really like UConn. Geno is a great coach, and they play the ultimate brand of team ball.
Their defence was suffocating, they choked the life out of SC, what a comprehensive win

Yes, I think it was a make up call due to a blown call against Houston a little earlier but all the same it was a weak decision. They were both competing for the ball, being a tad physical but not enough to warrant a foul.
If there's one way that Duke lost this game it was outside of Kon and Flagg their starting 5 did not produce. James & Proctor were 5 for 17 and six rebounds total. You need much more than that out of starters if you are going to win a national championship.
-
Proctor’s missed free throw was the biggest play (and yes the foul call on Flagg was rubbish). In my bracket I had Duke losing in the Elite 8 because I thought Proctor’s FT shooting would cost them.
He’s a good player and will be a star in the Boomers one day, but he needs to fix a couple of things not only in his mechanics but the mental side.

Crusader, you must be happy to see the Boozer twins commit to Duke for next year.

Imagine if Flagg committed for another year (to avoid being drafted no1 by the Wizards or Hornets…), Duke would be off the charts!
Intense scrappy game. Gators pulled off a Houston on Houston - low scoring, defence orientated performance.

I'd love to see it..... Tbh, I would love to see more players return for a second year, but I get it, lottery pick money is too good to postpone.
Well done Gators, deserved winners.

First Memphis, Now Denver. Malone only won a chip for them two seasons ago, they have had injury disruption, but at times the knock as been that they aren't as engaged as they should be. Seems like a poorly timed decision to me, perhaps they hope for a dead cat bounce into the playoffs? I don't think Malone or Jenkins will have issues finding new jobs

You have to assume that they ran it past Jokic.
The talk is that the coach and front office weren't on speaking terms, so someone had to go. It's a surprise that they fired them both though. This must encourage all of the arrivals in the Western conference. With three games to play in the regular season, I don't see this decision having any possible positive consequences as it relates to the upcoming playoffs

I agree.
It would make sense imo if they had someone from outside the organization in mind to take over but it looks like David Adelman is gonna be the interim. Hard to see how an assistant who has been part of Malones coaching regime is an upgrade.
Unless of course there has been a major bust up in the locker room and players have demanded that he is fired.
