Lakers gone. That trade worked out well!
Don't be too hasty. They overachieved this season, they need some bigs
There was something very odd about them claiming that Mark Williams failed his physical

He was exactly what they needed

I hate the lakers, but I will admit that this year I would have liked to have seen them make the second round or finals, just as a fuck you to Nico.
If they had got Williams I think they may have got there. It's a good question for LBJ, how much longer does he stick around for?
-
I think the bigger question for the Lakers (as a sports team not a business) is:
Is LBJs "it's amazing he's doing this at 40" numbers and performance justify a Supermax? One of the very greatest of all time, who can still stuff a stat sheet, but you need more from a guy getting paid that in order to be successful. His 4th quarters were not good. His defense is not good (and yet not the worst on his team aye Luka?). Still genuinely good, and quite frankly that's incredible at his age. But that age caveat doesn't equal wins in an incredibly balance league these days.
I think he goes again, and why wouldn't he if he still feels good. But they are going to be limited in the moves they can make, and it will take some incredibly good deals to turn this team in to a genuine title contender given the money tied up in two players, and the deficiencies they both have.
-
The hater in me says he'll announce his last season in advance so he gets the full retirement tour.
Which quite frankly he deserves.

Then do a surprise deal for Giannis....

Popovich has retired. Needless to say a great coach of a number of great Spurs outfits. Smart guy, equal parts cantankerous and humorous. He is devoted to basketball to a very high degree because he could have stepped down a while ago. Hopefully he can regain full health and enjoy some time away from the game.

Even though it was coming
This is a sad fucking day

Was nice to see Stevie hit his free throws when the Warriors went to hack-a-kiwi.
Today’s game 7 was a real fizzer. Harden went into his shell. Hope tomorrow’s is better.

Didn't see the game but just caught the highlights on YouTube, not going to spoil it but if you didn't see the game the highlights are well worth the watch......

@nonpartizan Was that the game where one team was behind by a point, deliberately fouled with about 30 seconds to go - to trigger the penalty shots, then ran it back to take a 3-pointer and steal the win?
I was at a bar here, and the barman was losing his shit trying to explain it to me as soon as it happened.
He's my man-splainer for all things american sport, and loves the job. -

The strategy of being up 3 late in the game and fouling to avoid the opposition shooting a 3 - was a disaster for OKC. I’m not a fan of it and when you are the best defensive team in the league it smacks of desperation rather than trusting your D.
But the analytics…..

It was unbelievably stupid, more so because Joker was off the court and they had no timeouts left
Fouling immediately after the SGA score also took no time off the clock - Gordon’s 2 made FT’s, the Denver foul, and Chet’s 2 misses, made it a 1 point game and only sucked a single second of playing time
They should have raced back on D after the dunk, and if they wanted, fouled in their half to at least use us 5 seconds of time - but I would have just played D and denied the 3 (no Joker remember). Worst case Denver make a 2 after at least 5-7 seconds. Worst, worst case is a tough contested 3 to tie I guess - but you still get the final shot then
Complete fuck up

bad fucking day for the nerds who are trying desperately to fuck up sports so they can feel included.
