That's in Super Rugby. I couldn't find similar rules in the NZR regulations. This is what I did find:
NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION Player Eligibility Regulations 2.2 The Playing 23 of any Premier Competition Union for the Premier Competition and the Ranfurly Shield shall consist only of Players who are: (a) Local Players in accordance with clause 3; etc etc etc 3 LOCAL PLAYERS 3.1 “Local Player” means a Player who: (a) is Registered with a club competing in a competition conducted under the control and jurisdiction of that Provincial Union; (b) has not been Registered with, or Played for, a club or other rugby organisation affiliated to another Provincial Union or national union after the Premier Competition Cut-Off Date (for the avoidance of doubt this will not include a Player playing only for a national representative team or touring team); etc -

The Mitre 10 Cup Media Guide contains 22 points of competition regulations. No mention is made of players having to play a minimum number of games to participate in the playoffs.

No. The NZRU aren't very fussy about this competition so they just let Steve Hansen decide who wins.
Next year I might not bother wasting my time watching and just email Steve at the start and get him to tell me who's going to win!

Unless, of course, they'd thought something along the lines that, "we don't want people thinking our competition is a bit of a farce so maybe we shouldn't let people play in the knockout play-offs if they haven't played at least a couple of games in the round robin".
If Canterbury makes the final next week Hansen's going to be in an interesting situation, where potentially he could release about ten All Blacks to play for them. Or he could release none.
To give it a tinfoil hat spin, does that depend on whether Razor is one of his great mates or if he hates Razor's guts and has scores to settle?

Load those fucking All Blacks on a plane Steve - and a couple of Barretts who are surplus to Canterbury's requirements - and don't you dare go thinking that some of them could do with a run and a celebration.
Though, to paraphrase Brad Thorn, "That'll be my final".
We've won the Canterburyless Championship - anything else is clover!
