Scott Barrett won't be playing for Canterbury on Sunday.

Because Brodie Retallick suffered a head knock against the Aussies, and a decision on whether he joins the squad will be made after he has undergone concussion protocols later this week, the All Blacks don't want to put themselves in a situation where they could run short of second rowers. That means Barrett must travel immediately.

How is Jordie Barrett getting the full apprentice experience if he doesn't jet out with the squad on Friday night?

He's getting a sort of "Aaron Cruden expurgated version". It bodes ill for the future!

    I am outraged! 🙂

On the plus side, the removal of Scott Barrett evens things up for Hansen giving Taranaki the use of Naholo.

Not if you're a Canterbury supporter, of course, but then again...who is? Those b'stards have got enough resources.

    TAB has Canterbury at $1.26, Ta$man $3.75

The teams haven't even been named yet! 🙂

I'm a bit concerned at the number of Mako$ who hobbled off vs Taranaki. Samu, Koloamatangi and Fonotia - with Makalio, Strange and Havili already out.

We need some of these guys back to be any chance.

Is that all you've got, Canterbury?

Well, it looks extremely beatable! 🙂

Looks like "rusty" Rob Thompson is back just in time to cover the absence of Goodhue.

Bit light on locks - I'm guessing there would be a bit of panic in the supporter ranks if either Bird or Mo'unga hobbles off. Or Luke Whitelock for that matter - he's been very good this year.

Really shit day in chch today, I'm gonna need a few pre game warm ups I think 🙂

Ta$man were great up front last week and banks has a far superior kicking game to Richie.

Looking forward to a good battle in the forwards

A couple of interesting selections in this team.

Nankivell starting ahead of Havili - that's a big call by the guy who's going to be Crusaders' backs coach.

Strange starting ahead of Parkinson. With Bird playing for Canterbury, I would have been tempted to go with Parkinson's extra height - though Strange has done a pretty good job so far this season.

A few important starting changes from the first time we played Canterbury:

Makalio for MacDonald, Ainley for Lepa, and Samu for Fredericks. We also lost Frizzell very early in that match.

In the Backs - Guyton, Nankivell and Lolohea are in for Christie, Havili and Faingaanuku.

Generally significantly stronger. A particularly important upgrade is Halanukonuka on the bench for Blair Princep.

Basically the strongest team we can field except Fredericks and Koloamatangi are injured and Squire with the ABs. Only one of those three would have started if available, another might have kept Frizzell and Blackadder off the bench.

Not the way "my" teams have gone so far. Otago and the Cubs both going down and Buller at the plate and trailing.

Mako$ and Black Caps still in the Bullpen - but, I'm steeled to go 0-5 for the weekend! 🙂

Isn't Havili returning from injury? Maybe that's the reason? Or he's not 100% yet?

Yeah - he had one game out. But, you'd think if he's fit to sit on the bench he'd be fit to start.

Certainly a vote of confidence in the young guy.

Far too many errors and far too much dumb play.

A somewhat strange conspiracy of events results in Ainley getting a deserved card.

We need to survive the next 10 minutes without leaking points and come home on a wet sail and dominant scrum.

Pretty much. Fucking dumb shit to get the card, and the last thing Ta$man needed, a man down.
