Had another crack tonight at the same weight and still maxed out at 20. Was a bit gutted as I thought I might sneak another 2-3 in. Hit the wall on 18 and the 19th and 20th reps were burners! Bugger was I did the rest of my workout and then came back and ripped out 3 sets of 6 at 95kg! so the endurance effort didn't seem to mess with the heavier lifting later on.

Okay I tried this today. I did it after some active stretching and 2mins of KB swings to get the heart going and muscles warm (for me I just can't start lifting without doing something before hand). The weight was 60kgs and while I struggled to 18 got there with correct form.

I'm not a huge barbell bench lifter. The bench pressing I do is with dumbbells in supersets with a lower body exercise. I often do DB bench press for 8 reps and then followed with DB split squats/lunges or DB Bulgarian split squats. I've slowly worked up to a best of 35kg DBs

Something else I've been doing is lying on the ground with legs flat and doing alternating single arm Kettlebell presses. Best is 20 reps (10 each arm) with 24kg KB. Superset that with 24kg KB Goblet squats (Holding KB upside down under your chin with two hands) for 10 reps. Rest for 30secs and then repeat.

DId 21 today at 62.5kg which i thought was pretty good til my mate sam had a go. He weighs slight more than me at 84 but his weights been coming down a bit lately and hes been lifting for a couple of years. Cranked out 41 reps at the same weight as me. Not too shabby. Also witnessed him row 2k in 6min 15 and he says he has a gone a bit faster than that too. Pretty farkin quick! Fit bugga.

Good effort with 21 JK, nice to get past 20!

41 reps, that's impressive. Better than Slater/O'Connor managed in the challenge and they were lifting similar weights!

missed out - programme change, doing LOW reps now - 12, 6,4,2. Is cool to be back into this. Managed 3 at 100 for my last set - stoked to be lifting heavy weights and my shoulder letting me (heavy for me anyway)!!

So next Monday will be upping weights - yay!

I had a crack tonight for the first time at the end of my workout. Did a warmup of 60kgs for 3 whole reps then managed to knock out 25 reps at 80kgs. Pretty stocked seeing I was farked by that stage of the session and I did it without a spotter. The hard part now now will be to do more next time. Might try this once a week. My goal is to do 20 at 100 I always peter out at 17.

That KB stuff sounds like a good workout mate. I had a go with some KBs for the first time a few weeks back. I was surprised how different they feel to DBs. I really want to get some and start learning the movements.

Married, mortgage with two kids I can no longer afford supplements! I do have one scoop of whey (from Countdown) with 300mls milk or water after my workout. Other than that my only supplements are the half beast in the freezer.

All of the above for me too RB and even with a mate who works in the industry who can get me discounts they're still farkin expensive. I do like the silly names though, Mutant Mass, Ripped Freak etc. There's another one I'm keen to try that is endorsed by none other than BBBT, the tube is green, I'm assuming the marketing folk thought of this cos this is also the colour of the Hulk.

I try and demolish some chicken and steak after weights, tastes better covered in Huffs of course <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Just watch it doesnt shoot out of the bottle and drown your steak!!! After watching "Bigger Faster Stronger" Ive become quite circumspect over the actual results gainsed from supplements.

In my less than expert opinion ( but in the opinion of experts ) people need to remember that they are supplements you can't just swallow them and expect miracles, you still need to smash out the weights...

I got some Superpump 250 from a mate which I will take before my 5 minute gun workout tonight. After that I will take the myofusion ( whatever the hell that is, protein of some sort I think ) and report back any "gains". That reminds me, better keep the aftework beers to an absolute minimum, I'll just have the one......

He swears black and blue that the superpump works a treat, I'm keen to give it a try and if it does may invest in a large tub.

Did anyone see that AB vid where Piri Weepu went into Owen Franks room ? OF had TRUCKLOADS of supplements, so many that he probably got strong merely carrying them around !

Yeah Franks had a pallet load of them. I'm sure some do work but I just think whats is the point of wasn't money hand over first for a guy like me? I mean if I was an NFL linebacker I would scoff everything going. But in reality I'm a broken arse 37 year old with two kids, paying a mortgage and living in the sticks.

I love lifting tin and beating my PBs but do I need supplements? No. They could well accentuate progress but where would it end? Im only training for enjoyment now so can happily forgo the pills, bottles, injections, fake tan..... I think Im probably training now for the joy of training rather than being on a seek and destroy misson to become the next Arnie!!! Haha
