It would be a shame if Eliza lost here because I think she is the strongest. Newman so far has just pulled off the better jump when it matters.

I think she lost the countback actually. Canadian made 4.75 on her first attempt.

Commentators here said that as Newman made it on her first jump, if Eliza made it she'd still be behind as she failed her first attempt.

I've found the commentary severely lacking in all of the events. They either don't seem to know what is happening themselves, or they assume that the viewers at home are all experts in some obscure sport and don't explain the rules or what is happening at all.

This is a big stage for a lot of these sports, the comms should be trying to sell them.

Yeah - McBeth clearly had no idea. He was extremely vague when the Canadian girl bumped up her height for her last jump. I was pretty sure you couldn't buy extra attempts by increasing your height.

I thought you were right about countback though - that all misses count in a countback. Not much logic in Eliza bumping to 4.80 if that was the case though.

She had one attempt at the increased height. Miss it and lose.

On the shot put. That is some effort from Valerie Adams to get up to speed again so soon after having a baby to get silver at the CGs. Don't underestimate how tough it is with a newborn baby as well - she said her MIL took the night shift for the last 6 weeks to allow her to train. What a legend.
