Good point raised by Nato on radio sport this morning, if they did leave for Europe who’s international competition will the Boks play in?
Can’t see them being invited to join the 6 Nations, and they would no longer be in SANZAR so they won’t be in the Championship.

As long as they are centrally contracted and have control of when their players are available - then their would be no reason for them not to remain in the 4 Nations.

isn't the money from Sky bundled for 4N & Super duper rugby? Obviously that would change...maybe this is all a ploy for when negotiations are up; we have other options, make sure you look after us.

Aussie are the ones who currently bring little to the table and have little bargaining power, that said, giving them less money while at an all time low wont help, so maybe they need to somehow change the payout structure and say Aus, heres a retainer, and this is how much money is available to you, however, it will be based on these >KPIs< you don't meet, they get paid to SA/NZ as bonuses based on their performances.

@godder See the statement from SANZAAR that I posted in this thread yesterday. The answer is 'no'; that is, officially. Who knows what's being talked about 'off the record'.

@taniwharugby Yeah, they can look at all options, but what the Lions CEO wants, SARU want, and SANZAAR want can be miles apart.

Supersport provides over half of SANZAAR's broadcasting revenue so NZR will be worried if SA does leave.

One drawback for SA if they shifted to playing in the NH is that rugby would largely become a summer sport in South Africa.

Would be pretty difficult for them to compete in the 4N as well as playing in the November international window unless they were planning never to give their players a break.

Another question is, does the PRO14 and 6Nations want to include SA teams and at which terms.

The Lions CEO comments read to me like he is using the Europe situation as leverage for more $/slice of the pie from SAANZAR for the new deal after 2020.

Ryan Crotty has re-signed with NZR, the Crusaders and Canterbury for another year (2019).

Scott Barrett has re-signed with NZR, the Crusaders and Taranaki for two years (2020).

So much for Scott wanting to play with his brothers at the Canes.

Great news that Razor has managed to keep Barrett. I'm sure the hurricanes would have tried pretty hard to lure him up there.

I went to a speech he gave earlier this year.. he put up a few inspirational pics at the start of crusaders past victories, his family, captain Whitelock etc.

One of the pics was of Scott Barrett... he explained that he put that one up because unlike Jordie, he decided to stay and was rewarded with a super rugby title. his next words were ... "but don't worry, I'll get Jordie back" 🙂

Haven't seen this posted anywhere, but Ofa Tu'ungafasi has re-signed with NZ Rugby, the Blues and Auckland until 2021.

@nepia They must have been desperate for the Sunwolves to win a game to make it full-circle.

I created a little spreadsheet that pulls data from superxv and like to open it up after each round. thought I'd share some of it:

NZ conference by far the most successful, with SA and Aus on par if you disregard the Sunwolves/Jaguares. Strangely Aus ahead of SA on head to head, but fall short against NZ comp. Begs the question as to why they cannot win a game vs NZ since they seem to be on par with the SA teams.

    Rugby is a funny game.

Fuck the press are muppets, it's impossible for the canes and Saders to meet in the final, they'll be ranked first and fourth (unless we have many massive major upsets) so will send up in the semis together, if they both win their quarters. Makes you realise how much bollox it published under the heading of news
