The Yankees just got a whole lot stronger

Stanton happy to escape Miami, join Yankees

Giancarlo Stanton said the Marlins tried to strong-arm him into a trade to the Giants or Cardinals, but he refused to be forced to do something that wasn't right for him. "This is what I've dreamed of," Stanton said of joining the Yankees.

Speaking of MLB, what about that Japanese chap that essentially turned down $200m by signing as a 23(?) year old rather than waiting until he's 25 and then signed with the Anaheim Angels where he could have pretty much chosen any team!

    Loves Disney land apparently.....

The Marlins have always been a selling club but the locals will question who Jeter actually works for.

Yet another reason to hate the Yankees.

Good news for the sport - Yankees back to being the super-villain team (in terms of talent overload not personalities).

Giancarlo Stanton seems to have settled into life as a Yankee after blasting two home runs on opening day

There's still 120+ games to go in the regular season. 🙂

I still like the Astros as they have the best starting pitching rotation.

I went to the old stadium and watched a game, great history, but the new one looks more comfy

That time of the year again - the World Series (Red Sox vs Dodgers) starts shortly. Boston are heavy favourites after winning 108 games this season. LA were the NL champs last season too and are hoping to win their first title since 1988.

The MLB beancounters will be happy that two of the bigger TV markets are represented.

Pundits on ESPN calling it that Boston's season will be a waste if they don't win. No pressure.

Boston beat the only other 2 teams that won 100+ games (Yankees and Astros) to get to the WS. I expect high scoring games where the bat dominates pitching.

Red Sox win Game 1 8-4. They never trailed but LA kept the game close until the 7th inning.

Boston wins game 2 4-2 to take a 2-0 series lead as the teams ahead to warmer climes.

The Red Sox are getting hits when they need them and their bull pen has been stronger so far.

LA wins 3-2 with a walk-off homer in 18 fuckin' innings. The longest game in WS history.

Both teams would have used a lot of pitchers.

Washington Nationals win the World Series 3-2 over Houston Astros for their first ever title.

This celebration from the corpulent gentleman in the grey baseball cap and scarlet shirt is perhaps the best I have seen after any sports result ever:

    @KiwiMurph 🙂

I watched all 7 games. Amazing that the home team never won a game. The Astros had plenty of chances in Game 7 but couldn't get a hit when they needed it.
