Ricky Jay - probably the worlds best close up magician ever.

If you can find it, I highly recommend the recording of his broadway show "Ricky Jay and his 52 assistants"

*edit - A full movie lenth documentary about him is on youtube at bottom of this post

He flew dive bombers off a carrier during world war 2 and was shot down once .

That’s pretty bloody badass imho .

Also responsible for one of the all time greatest sledges in response to the amoral Ted Kennedy

His speech attacking George Bush senior in 1988, for example, would have been deadlier delivered by someone else. “As the [Reagan] administration secretly plotted to sell arms to Iran,” he asked, “Where was George?” Republican bumper-stickers replied: “Dry, Sober and Home with his Wife”.

@bovidae Utu is my favourite, but then again it was filmed in the Bay and a bunch of my family are in it (lots in the Church scene, it's the church at Waipatu marae where I was christened, and a few as part of Te Wheke's gang) and their commune at Waimarama is right next to the marae.

@nepia Three iconic NZ movies. It's been a while since I've watched Utu, and I have been meaning to watch the Redux version.

I had a Battletruck T shirt and my Dad took my sister and I to see it - there mustn't have been age restrictions back then.

It had John Ratzenberger ( Cliff Clavin from Cheers ) in it oddly enough. Probably hasn’t aged as well as mad max though.

I only remember Ratzenberger and Bruno Lawerance being in it, I have no idea who the main guy was.
