In fairness - i'm not sure Papali'i was eligible for the age grade player for the NZR Awards as he was age grade last year (NZ U20s) not this year. However - Plummer would have been a better choice over Christie in those awards anyway.

After watching the U20s I think any number of players is more deserving of Christie.

The NZ Herald rate Brodie Retallick as their best NZ Rugby player in 2018 and Beauden Barrett as number 2. Spot on IMHO. They rate SBW too highly, but apart from that these seem sane.

Nope, even aside from Akira being there Taylor was clearly the best AB this year.

Ryan Crotty 33 votes. Excellent off the bench against England. Too often injured.
Dane Coles 31 votes. Great to see him back for EOYT. Now stay fit!
Liam Squire 30 votes. Outplayed by Saffa, English and Irish forwards.
SBW 29 votes. All of those for his performance in Third Test Vs France.
Aaron Smith 26 votes. Ok in two Eden Park tests. Out of sorts in other games.
Waisake Naholo 13 votes. 12 for Sydney. Risks falling behind George Bridge.
Owen Franks 11 votes. Played his best Rugby in 2018 for the Crusaders.
Joe Moody 8 votes. See above. Overshadowed by rise of Karl T.

The Halberg Awards judges reviewed a record 93 nominations to find the finalists list, recognising achievements in 2018 up to 30 November.   

The winners will be announced at the 56th ISPS Handa Halberg Awards held on Thursday 21 February 2019 at Spark Arena in Auckland and televised live on SKY SPORT from 8.00pm.  

Other awards presented during the ceremony include; New Zealand’s Favourite Sporting Moment (public vote category), Sport New Zealand Leadership, Lifetime Achievement and inductees into the Sports Hall of Fame.
