@gt12 Crotty has actually missed very few games (he played 15 games this season). He has been taken off early a few times, but mostly that was precautionary, until he broke his thumb.

IMO, the Crusaders don't need Jordie. Havili and Goodhue can both play at 12, and in the few "easy" games, they can give game time to Punivai at 12. I prefer Havili at 15 and Goodhue at 13 though.

@Stargazer I agree recruiting Jordie is not as important as a couple of decent Loose Forwards and a TH.They to me are more important plenty of 2nd Five cover as you have mentioned. Then there is the option of a McLeod type younger player for long term development

With Crotty gone, I wonder if there will be so many injury opportunities in the Saders midfield....

Goodhue is a much better 13 than 12, so 12 is an opportunity, but there are a few very talented players who won’t even make the 23 if Jordie goes there. I think it’s a risk for players like Ennor and Jordan (especially).

Only big reason for Jordie to shift is if he has his heart set on playing second-five and knows he won't get much of a shot with Laumape having that spot locked up.

It's pointless for the Crusaders to sign him as a fullback with Havili and Jordan (and Bridge) already on the books.

Whatever happens i hope Goodhue stays at 13. The ABs need him to stay there long term.

Not too fussed who Jordie ends up playing for, but if moving to the Crusaders and playing 12 gets him in his “best” position and he improves as a player that is good for NZ rugby.

The Crusaders' head coach confirmed they've filled one of the two vacancies created by the departure of Ronan O'Gara and Brad Mooar, while they're in discussions with a handful of people regarding the other opening.

Robertson shed little light on the coach he's snagged, which will be announced by the Crusaders this week, but confirmed he had thought outside the box, as was the case when he lured Irishman O'Gara to Christchurch ahead of the 2018 season.

"I know the market well. If I didn't know who was out there, I'm not doing my job," Robertson said.

The newcomer will take over from Mooar, who has taken over as head coach of Welsh side Scarlets after four seasons with the Crusaders, including one year as a defence coach under former coach Todd Blackadder.

Mooar predominantly worked with the inside backs under Robertson, and was charged with leading the team's attack, strategy and game planning.

Robertson also confirmed Andrew Goodman, who is sharing Ta$man's head coaching role with Clarke Dermody this year, was in the process of re-signing with the franchise for a third season.

Former Mako captain Goodman assisted Robertson as defence coach, and individual technical development, this season.

Forwards coach Jason Ryan inked a new two-year deal with the red and blacks in April.

The final coaching structure won't be finalised until the final vacancy has been filled, but there's a chance Goodman will take over from O'Gara, who worked with the backs but has returned to France to coach La Rochelle.

"We've got a lot of guys who are second and third year guys who will take over and push for those positions," Robertson said.

"There's a lot of continuity, there's a lot of players that have come through our academy that know our systems, so the cohesion is really high and we've had a lot of them in with us the last few pre-seasons."

That includes openside flanker and former New Zealand under-20s captain Tom Christie, who trained with the Crusaders all season and should earn a full contract next season as Todd's potential replacement.

"We've got four, potentially five, contracts to sort over the Mitre 10 Cup. We're negotiating with a couple of players to nail off. It's always evolving," Robertson said.

"We have our scouts and tracking in place, so it all starts again."

That would be a great signing. He would be perfectly positioned to take the rains from Razor if needed too.

Would take either of them. Why not both?

Would leave us very forward-orientated, having lost two backs coaches

@chchfanatic Interesting, because he's signed with Toyota Industries Shuttles in March, but obviously, we don't know for how long.

Razor to be ABs coach assisted by Jason Ryan and Scott McLeod. Aaron Mauger returns to Chch as Crusaders coach and Tony Brown has a clear run at the Highlanders.

@shark Not sure how I would feel about that if it ever happens.
The jury is out for me on Aaron Mauger as a coach

And a terrible scenario for the Crusaders

Mauger by far is the worst HC out of the three

Can't really see that happening - Mauger will be donkey deep creating the new Highlanders (and not sure whether Tony Brown yet wants to be a head coach).

I reckon we'd be more likely to get Hammer from the Highlanders.

But, who knows what other options would be floating around - "jobs for the boys"might see us get Foster!

Personally, if Razor were to get the big job I'd love to see Penney come back.

@shark My opinion has no validity, because I voted for Dave Hewitt over Razor! 🙂

Me too! One of the things I love about rugby is how often I get things completely wrong.
