Australia’s Sevens sides are in discussions with rival teams to try and fill a gap in their 2020 calendar after the postponement of the Hong Kong and Singapore Sevens World Series legs.

World Rugby announced on Thursday night that the two Asian World Series legs, originally scheduled for early April, would be pushed back to October due to the threat of coronavirus.

While the men have the North American World Series legs coming up, the news means the women’s World Series will have a three-month gap between tournaments.

Rugby AU performance manager Sevens Scott Bowen said the organisation had started to sound out other countries like New Zealand and Fiji about setting up some matches in that window.

SEVENS SQUADS CONFIRMED IN THE BUILD UP TO TOKYO 2020

    .

Just five months out from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens squads have been finalised as both teams set their sights on a golden year.

The Black Ferns Sevens are excited to see the return of 2013 World Sevens Player of the Year, Kayla Ahki (nee McAlister). The 31-year-old has returned from France with her two children and has her sights set on a second Olympic campaign having been part of the first ever Sevens team to play at the Olympics in 2016. Also returning is Shiray Kaka, who has battled with a series of injuries in recent times but has been part of the Black Ferns Sevens recent victory in Sydney and Cape Town.

    .

The All Blacks Sevens have added Hawke’s Bay winger Ollie Sapsford and 18-year-old Kitiona Vai, the younger brother of former Blues outside back Melani Nanai, to their roster.

This includes four Investec Super Rugby players for a total of 25 contracted players in the build up to the Olympics.

Sapsford, originally from Mid Canterbury, has a background in AFL and in 2019 played for Hawke’s Bay in the Mitre 10 Cup and TECT National Sevens.

“Ollie played really well for Hawke’s Bay at Nationals and impressed when he came into train with the All Blacks Sevens Development squad. We’re excited to have a winger that can play in the forwards who can be really physical and strong in the air,” said Laidlaw.

Vai, in his first year out of De La Salle College, turned heads in the winning Red Bull Ignite7 team at the end of last year.

“Kiti has genuine x factor. It might take time for him to develop but we know he comes from good pedigree, his dad played for Manu Samoa and we have all seen the talent of his brother,” said Laidlaw.

    @Bones
Because he's still very young and has shown nothing yet at professional level.

This is the AB7s team for the Los Angeles Sevens :

    Caleb Clarke
    Sam Dickson
    Andrew Knewstubb
    Ngarohi McGarvey-Black
    Tim Mikkelson
    Sione Molia
    Etene Nanai-Seturo
    Tone Ng Shiu
    Amanaki Nicole
    Joe Ravouvou
    Akuila Rokoisoa
    William Warbrick
Joe Webber replaced by Vilimoni Koroi due to injury
    .

All Blacks Sevens Co-Captain Tim Mikkelson will run out for his 90th tournament at next week’s HSBC Los Angeles Sevens, surpassing DJ Forbes as the most capped New Zealand Sevens player.

Joe Ravouvou and Amanki Nicole have been named for their first tournaments this season, with Laidlaw confirming a desire to see all players gain meaningful game time in the build up to the Olympics.

“Joe came back from 15s injured but he’s been training well and his conditioning is probably the best we have seen, he is enthusiastic about getting back out there.”

Andrew Knewstubb, Akuila Rokolisoa and William Warbrick return after last featuring in the Cape Town victory in December.

“We’ve have only lost two games so far this season but coming off Sydney we know we need to continue to improve. The competition in the squad is really pushing players every day and this group has been training well in the build up to next week,” said Laidlaw.

New Zealand v England and the halfwit ref (Francisco Gonzalez) doesn't understand offside at a ruck.

    Half time: 14 - 12

England can lose and still progress if they lose by less than seven after a massive boilover against Spain.

Not his best game - two tries to the opposition.
