Coronavirus - New Zealand

@taniwharugby Smart lot that media, always asking the probing questions...
There's a valid question about how many days of 0 new cases is mission accomplished, but it's probably more than 1 day...
-
Haha, a friend's FB post...
This covid 19 is like supporting the warriors..... you finally get to the point where the team are doing really well & being consistant, but your just waiting for someone to f*** it up. #itsouryear #itsamatteroffaith #covid19

was speaking to a good client of mine today, who's business restarted back at L3, his company does alot of work for a MInistry, and he said that is all contracts stil on the table, but said they are also pushing hard on some other projects they had on the table as well to try and get things going again and get cash flowing.
Said they are having to source some PPE from alternative suppliers than they would usually due to demand.

You can search how much any firm has claimed from the work subsidy scheme here.
From pretty much everything I've read - as long as they can show a 30% decrease in revenue for a month, an employer is entitled to claim the subsidy for the full 12 weeks.
For those who shut down for Level 4, but re-opened at Level 3 will be having their wage bill substantially subsidized for 7 weeks. Type in e.g. Fletcher Building, who presumably have a significant proportion of employees back working.
I guess this is basically the helicopter money.
-
@taniwharugby Yes - that's why I added the "basically".
Looks like Grant Robertson has picked up much of the NZ wage bill for 12 weeks. A decent windfall for some employers who've gone back to work after five weeks - especially if they can work with minimal disruption.
Should keep a lot of places ticking over, though will be interesting to see what happens when the 12 weeks is up.
Yeah - I've done some snooping as well!
-
So no new cases again today and a previously notified probable case now classed as clear,
-
-
@taniwharugby funny, I came here to post the same article! Us and Denmark apparently have no increase in deaths.
Early days but 0 new cases other than recent arrivals in quarantine for 2-3 weeks would get us on track for level 1.

Bridges is on a hiding to nothing right now

I thought Bridges had some good questions in the House, but he got mauled by Jacinda, as did Duncan Garner when he asked similar questions.
She is untouchable right now
Indeed. TBF, Bridges knows that the government is acting on expert advice and that a National government would act similarly, so he is mostly playing to the base currently. Obviously if he can get a few changes and nudges in his preferred direction, he'll take the wins, but he knows he isn't likely to get major shifts.

@canefan was that Garner who got "slammed" for daring to ask questions when he's not even a qualified epidemiologist? I thought that was a bit off....
I can't imagine getting on a bus and daring to ask the driver where it was going, lest he/she think I'm all of a sudden a TFL route planner.
