But whoever's been giving BoJo advice on dealing with the press ought to be polishing his CV.
Looks like this Guardian & Mirror journalist could be out of a job as well.....
-
@Victor-Meldrew He's actually a freelancer, though has written for the Grauniad and the Mirror. You'd hope no longer though. What an appalling person.

If ever there was a case of taking one to know one, this gentleman seems to fit the bill.

So I've just caught the end of a BBC piece where they were talking about the testing being well short of the 200k target "set" by BoJo.
Is it me who's dumb in assuming that was capacity, or is it them?
BoJo was shooting from the hip. Hancock screwed up his face at the point he said it.

Didn't they do 170-180k a week ago?

I only have one problem with Gove.
He's the only politician I know who can lose an argument before he's opened his mouth.

Hah as I said to the other half when she reminded me who Cummings is - "oh he's the one whose personality matches Gove's looks".

Yeah, he writes better than he speaks
-
@Bones said in Coronavirus - UK:
@pakman yeah I was of the understanding he meant capacity even though he didn't clarify that. They've already got much more capacity than they're doing, why would they force out over twice as many tests just to reach a number?
That wouldn't make sense.

I've only seen one of the briefings he's led but thought he seemed the most concise of anyone. Much less stuttering and erming.

They should test all of Durham.

He's very capable indeed, but I hear a complete prick in his social life. On the other hand, it seems Cummings got on well with Benny Bumbercatch, when the movie was made.

@Victor-Meldrew We all had the test last week and came back negative.

Right. I've just had a Coronavirus test. Had flu-like symptoms and a dryish cough for a few days. Here's the detail.
BOOKING
Go online and enter your name and mobile number. You then get a SMS after 5 minutes which gives you a secure link.
Access that link, you enter personal details & your NHS number. Once you do that you get a choice of testing stations and times. Choose your appointment and you get sent an SMS and/or email with details and a QR code. You can get a test the same day in 30 minutes slots or the next day with 5 minutes slots. I booked a place 20 miles away
THE TEST
You arrive at the testing station, your QR code is scanned and you get directed to a reception area where your details are confirmed and then you head-off to the test area. Not as bad as has been suggested. I coughed a bit with the throat swab and the nostril swab was fine - hardly noticed it. You then leave and get the YES/NO test in 48-72 hrs via email/SMS
The whole thing was very simple, easy and slick - someone's done a bloody good job with this. Place was virtually empty and the Tester told me they were running at 10-15% capacity.
Just got the result.
Had Test at 1230 on 25 May. Result at 19:14 on 26 May.
That's pretty impressive.

Not obvious that Cummings broke the law and clearly he and his family were ill. They really don't seem to enjoy being under siege from the media. Emily Thornberry (his MP FFS) encouraging people to abuse him in the street is hateful. For all those he has my sympathy.
But the way he has handled this is appalling and a massive distraction to the UK Government at a crucial time. No apology for going against his own "Stay at Home" guidance. No empathy for those who have been unable to see family or have missed major family moments. He has offered a rapidly shifting story that has lots of holes in it. Why did he go back to Downing Street after having COVID symptoms? Why did he leave London? Was there really no child care option nearer than Durham? Why did his wife lie throughout the Spectator article? Why did he go to Banrard Castle when the advice that weekend was very much to stay at home? A 60 mile round trip to test his eyes?
Johnson should have fired him days ago.
