@jegga, man politics suck. A number of what if's that I guess we could both list, but if the first vote has big numbers in favour will the nats/nz first listen to the people. Doesn't voting that way make you just as bad in terms of taking the party v issue line? Genuine question btw.
Yes it does , I’ll cop to that.
I think the nats vote will be determined by the margin of the referendum and that will probably be decided by how labour and the greens word it. It’s pretty easy to fuck that up , I was living in Australia during their republican referendum and Howards govt made the option unpalatable by making the president chosen by parliament not by the voting public and it was rejected.
Based on their track record so far I predict labour will find a way to fuck this up .

@jegga yea it needs to be simple enough, and not with too many variables.
Be interesting to see what sort of voter numbers they get for it.
I'm all for medicinal use, but as already stated, I'll await the documentation before I make my decision

@jegga ha ha all I'm asking is you give them the chance! especially given you are pro the Portuguese and Swiss models etc.
They aren’t offering anything like the Swiss or Portuguese models though? I had another mate disappear down the p rabbithole last year , I’d be right behind them doing something radical to try and get in front of the p epidemic obviously that’s not going to be easy though.

Birds eat it
Ants love it
Fowls eat it
Goats love to play with itSo don’t ever criticize it

@Salacious-Crumb didn't take you long to get to Denver!

@jegga aren't Labour going to put a very detailed moot on the referendum? I thought that was the case.
If so then sure its not binding and will go through a sub-committee process but it will be much harder to ignore a yes vote than if it is a broad "Should cannabis be legalised"
I think if the referendum comes back in favour then Nats will fall into line. At this stage I think they've let Paula Bennett off the leash to gauge public opinion but they will go with the majority.
It's a bit of a can of worms really - anti-smoking, home grow etc. All manner of factors to consider other than just should you risk a conviction for something most of the population has tried at some stage (allegedly).

@Kruse Akira is more dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes, and more awesome than weed. He should definitely be legalized.
Dangerous ground there on a contentious issue.
Lets stick to the safe discussions like abortion and religion.
