    It looks like 22 June is the day when we go/decide to go to level 1. I'd recommend putting off game until then. Life will be so much easier in level 1!

    A short season in the Waikato. Play each other once, no promotion from Division 1 to Premier this year. A lot of Prem B teams were struggling and half the Division 1 clubs are not running a B team. Good to get out and about today. Junior rugby starts after school holidays, going ten weeks. My sons team organised a pre season game today, my son loved being back at it.

    @Higgins I wonder if he’ll play NPC for the Poo. What is he 40? Still better than Booth I’d say.

    @Nepia They'll only be fighting for the 21 jersey if Aaron Smith is available for NPC.

    @Tim That's not good. Has CORONA been the death knell for club rugby? No Glenfield and some shocking blow-outs. Targetting one game of the season to keep under 50 points must be demoralising

    @dogmeat I thnk Covid has had a big impact, whether it is the death knell is another story.

    I had heard of clubs up here, had 'normal' numbers for pre-season (pre-covid) but with the season starting last weekend, plenty of players havent come back.

    I guess some have lost jobs, some working longer hours to make up for last few months and rugby is taking a back seat.

    So hopefully this year wil lbe an anomoly and most clubs will return to 'normal' next year.

    @dogmeat Unfortunately, North Harbour club rugby has been steadily declining for years. Glenfield have had trouble fielding teams, and, IIRC, have been prem 2 for a while. Blowouts against Mahurangi are the norm. The marist result is a bit of a shock though.

    It's gotten worse this year, with more teams struggling to fill their grades.

    The demographic changes at traditional rugby schools hasn't helped (basketball is huge in schools), nor has Harbour losing it's status as a super rugby base and top tier province.

    It was Moerewa, which I think is still more league than rugby. But yeah, tough day out.

    If you're up that way, the cycle rail trail goes through the back of Moerewa. Really neat - the state highway is always a bit bleak, but it seems a well kept community from the rail trail.

    @nzzp

    IIRC last year they were in the next grade down too, I dont think they were promoted, just changed the set up on the Northland comp, so were always up against it.
