Lets start with the 2007 commission of enquiry into police conduct (identified 300 women who had suffered from police misconduct).. and Greg O'Connors response in 2012 when asked if they had implemented the reccomendations in said report (called it "ritulistic humiliation of the police force)

What about Louise Nicholas and those arseholes Shipton and Schollum?

Tena Pora? Lets frame a young slow brown kid instead of looking at the evidence

David Tamiheri? plenty within the NZ legal communtiy who consider this a police stitch up

I have an easy retort to that.........

Untold fucken examples of brave, intelligent, tiring, resourceful, thankless , gruesome, gut wrenching tasks that the average person would squirm at yet these people face with a gusto that the likes of you could only dream of.

If Police are found to be incompetent or corrupt ( and of course this will happen in ANY organisation from time to time because we live in the real world not fantasy land ) then believe me they are hung out to dry and investigated thoroughly, incidentally this is by an independent body.

Bounce back with whatever tenuous examples you can, it won't help your case in the slightest.
-

The IPCA is not independent.

90% of complaints it receives are referred directly back to the police. The investigators it employs are generally ex police officers.

Most of the cases I mentioned above only became known after the media started reporting them, not because of the IPCA doing anything
-

Although these 2 may have been guilty, the subsequent retrials show that the original convictions were shoddy and probably corrupt.

Other examples.

Arthur Allan Thomas - Lets plant the evidence so we look like we are doing our job

Peter Ellis - What a disgrace of an investigation

Roast busters

Urewera (so called) terrorist raids

Numerous deaths in police custody

And the IPCA.... so the department that is supposed to investigate police corruption is the police itself! That makes no sense to me

I don't have blind faith in the police either but some of those are bit tenuous don't you think? I'm not sure why you called it the so called terrorist raids for a start and what the police did wrong there.
-

I'm well aware they claim to be independent. However a review of the directors and methods of investigation shows it's not quite as clear cut -

Ex cops investigating current cops is a potential conflict of interest in my opinion. -

i agree. There's potential for corruption in the police like everywhere else in society.

The original comment was kinda tongue in cheek (hence the fishing emoji) and aimed to get mn5 all fired up.

But his blind assumption that the police are above all that stuff made me carry it on a bit more

I don't have the same kind of faith in every single member of the police. Some of them are corrupt arseholes others are hardworking and honest.

David tamiheri deserves a retrial though..... He's more innocent than David Bain, Lundy and Scott Watson -

Like I said, I doubt that. He's out of jail now unfortunately, maybe you could drop round for a cup of tea and chat about being his Joe Karam?

Alternatively the odds on another person capable of double murder and rape being in the exact same area at the same time as the backpackers and Tamihere who was on the run for rape and had already murdered someone must be astronomical and we'll just assume that the cops probably got the right guy.
-

Heard of huia foley?

After escaping from a mental hospital He attacked a catholic priest in waihi just prior to the murders.

Then escaped into the bush.

It's well known he was on the same bush tracks as the two swedes at the time they disappeared.

A few weeks later he turns up in whitianga with a European brand sleeping bag. Where he robbed a couple with a baseball bat and stole their car.

There are 2 confirmed reports of him confessing to the crime before his death.

So there's at least one other -

An Ian Wishart theory, I'll pass on that. If he said it was raining I'd check outside to make sure.

I will say that having read the latest on Ben and Olivia I'm a lot more convinced by wisharts stance on tamiheri than Scott Watson.
