@booboo was having a brief look earlier at @taniwharugby’s picks. On first glance looked like he’d picked a team chocka block full of DD’s. That’s ok coz it’s about as kiwi as L&P but leaving Hadlee out, come on someone’s got to open the bowling. Dipak can’t do it as he wasn’t nominated.

Him picking a cricket team is like me commenting on anything Golf related

How the fuck has Hadlee got less votes than some other players !?!??

    Recency bias.

    Young people of today ...

They're lucky I'm not a mod cos I'd be banning those fluffybunnies so fast their noses would bleed.

Name and shame mate, then we can throw virtual rotten eggs and fruit and just generally ridicule them.

It appears @mikedogz , @Hooroo and @taniwharugby may be our Gen Ys who have no cricket knowledge prior to The Young Guns ...

Nah I'm Gen X I just don't remember Hadlee in the ODI format as well as I do in the test format. He's our greatest bowler for sure but in an all time ODI team I think there is better value.

    Hadlee - 158 wk @ 21.56
    Bond - 147wk @ 20.88
    Pringle - 103 @23.87
    Boult - 164 @25.29
Will throw this in for comparison:
    Southee - 190 @34.51
    Cairns - 201 @32.8

Who are the others with better value?
Obviously batting comes into it, and Paddles averaged around 21, but 250 was a good team score then too.

I hear you. The value in my mind is with the bat. I am not sure who I selected now but I think I went Boult which makes a mockery of my comment but I definitely went bond as the out and out bowler.

@Hooroo Hopefully he wouldn't have to bat much given the batting line up ahead of him. Hard to deny the bowling figures.

Bond, Hadlee and Boult all make it as bowlers who can bat a bit.
    Cairns as both.
Then Oram or Vettori depending on the oppo and pitch.

Got to say a lot of those guys have surprising low averages with the bat but would mostly be coming in when the slog was on.

In hindsight my vote for McMillan was misplaced, I was weighting my choices more on the all rounder aspect after taking Bond as my strike bowler.

Bond, Vettori, Astle, Harris and McMillan...

But meh, I still watch more cricket than @MN5 does rugby, but post less on cricket than he does on rugby...

That stuffed me up too. There needed to be an all rounders poll and a bowlers poll. Head organiser deciding beforehand how many of each in the team

Too hard, could you imagine the fisticuffs on here about someone being a bowler or an allrounder? Or if we made people pick 6 batsmen, one allrounder and 4 out and out bowlers, when they wanted 5 batsmen 3 allrounders and 3 bowlers?

It'd be worse than dealing with my kids fighting in the back seat of the car during a road trip.
I decided it was easier (for myself) and safer for all involved to do it how I did it.

@Hooroo I have been thinking about letting people change their vote.

Doesn't seem right that people have to settle on a player they didn't really want in their team because they didn't read the voting instructions properly...

Pfffft. I’d never leave McCaw or DC out of an all time AB team !!!

Fair point, although we wouldn't have them in a 7s poll either 😉

My point about viewing volumes of each sport still valid.

    @Gunner dick 🤣

I watched ODIs when Hadlee was active, he was a bloody good bowler in that format as well.

Good analogy I’ll give you that but I’m still triggered by your implications, I watched every AB test live last year !!!!

I'm hating all these bloody cricket threads filling up the Fern 🙂 , but seriously how the fuck is Hadlee not unanimous in this?

I don't like agreeing with the Jar Jar lover.

When was last time that we all agreed on anything?

IIRC there were dissenting voices about R McCaw being God. Just crazy people on here.

I'm polytheist, McCaw is one of the Gods (but MJ was a better rugby player). 🎣
