They look very slow tacking or gybing too, seem to lose a huge amount of boat speed

@taniwharugby That start was even but Luna Rossa got the favoured right side.

USA needs to be ultra-aggressive in the pre-start in race 4 because they won't win unless they force a mistake from Luna Rossa. No point in trailing every leg - again.

@nzzp possibly a bit gun shy after falling the other week turning at high speed and again yesterday?

@Bovidae thats the thing, he was on the wrong side of the start (well, seemed the wrong side) and from there LR built her lead.

Then a tech issue at first turn, time to go home with just ten races... Issue again, off the foils...

He is just so passive compared to Spithill.

@Machpants its one thing to get beaten by skill but to add in mechanical issues just adds salt to the wounds

Team UK's struggles in light winds becomes apparent in the pre-start.

Surely they must have known in practice that they are a dog in these conditions?
    Just punting on strong winds?

@Crucial Yes. From what I have read the designers optimise for a wind range and you hope that covers as wide of a range as possible. Team UK wants stronger winds while Luna Rossa is better at the lower end.

1:52 secs win to Luna Rossa in race 1.

Luna Rossa looks the better boat in mid range as well

Lester also made the comment that Luna Rossa looks to be an easier boat to sail as Team UK lost ground every time they tacked/gybed.

Team UK will be wanting winds at the upper limit to maximise their strengths.

They definitely need a decent blow to get it up, otherwise they are just flopping about.

Probably about the same as yesterday afternoon's second race. NE, with the sea breeze filling it in. Forecast for 24kph, so about 13 knots. Enough for Ineos to get it up but they were still relatively slow and struggled to maneuver. They will want more than that - might get it, but is pretty still where I am north of Auckland and we are on a ridge facing NE.

A different course today, so wind conditions are also different.
