Defence seems optional in this game so far

Missed the beginning of the game, but saw both Crusaders' tries. They were almost identical, both from a line-out driving maul. Chiefs U20s really having trouble defending against them.

Well-worked team try to the Chiefs, scored by Tama Te Aute.

    Chiefs lead 26 - 21.

The Chiefs backs look far more dangerous but they need to stop giving away dumb penalties to allow the Crusaders to kick to the corner and then score from a lineout drive.

A brainfart from Cook-Savage for the goal-line dropout.

The Chiefs' backs look good and pounce really well on mistakes made by the Crusaders; the Crusaders' pack is better though.

    That Chiefs' halfback is handy!

Chiefs U20 absolutely the best team I've seen in this comp.

    FT: Crusaders U20 28 - 49 Chiefs U20

The Chiefs won it in the second half; convincingly. I liked the look of Gideon Wrampling, Kane O’Connor and Te Paea Cook Savage in this game. They made the difference in the second half. Very sloppy play from the Crusaders, lots of handling errors. Their pack was strong though. That line-out maul is a real weapon. But if that's your main or only weapon that's working on the day, you're not going to win games against strong teams like the Chiefs U20s. Anton Segner really classy.

Wrampling, Cook-Savage (mainly in 1st half) and Lasaqa were the Chiefs' stars for me.

So if the Chiefs win their next game do they wrap up the comp or is there a final?

No final, just 3 games each.

@canes4life There is no final, so if the Chiefs U20 win their third game, they're the team with the best results.

I assume they'll be called the winner then. However, IMO you cannot consider this a real comp with a winner, considering teams only play 3 of the 5 other teams, and the Barbarians team is an easier opponent, so the opposition is not equal for all teams. I think the best way to describe this tournament is a NZ U20 trial.
