So @mariner4life reminded me of a topic I've been meaning to kick off for a while, pure self indulgence and probably of no interest to anyone else.

I've been doing a bit of a throwback recently, going back through classics. Those CD's you bought because you liked a song, stuck it in the car stereo and left in for months/years because the whole album cranked.

    Lesssgoooo

Weezer - Blue Album. Tune after tune and reminds me of my first summer in the Mount, bliss.

Incubus - Make Yourself. Great sing along, how much of a poet is Boyd? So good.

Slash - Slash. Popped into HMV and just happened to hear the Fergie song being played, so bought the album. Holy fuck what a collection of fantastic vocalists I'd never heard or thought could sing like that.

The Game - The Documentary. Oh me oh my yes boy.

Silverchair - Frogstomp. Yeah yeah but there's a good collection of catchy songs here.

Timbaland - Shock Value. You better do what the song say.

The Cars - The Cars. Yeah so this one wasn't one I bought and threw in the car, but one my bro left behind when he buggered off to boarding school and I was a young tacker. The volume just keeps getting cranked.

A few others, but for now, but that'll do to kick it off.

Yeah, I like this album too. First year uni. Fully cranking hilly with say it ain't so legendary moments.

Slash - Slash. Popped into HMV and just happened to hear the Fergie song being played, so bought the album. Holy fuck what a collection of fantastic vocalists I'd never heard or thought could sing like that.

Yeah, this is a vastly under rated album which doesn't get anywhere the recognition it should. I absolutely love it as well. Best track is the one with Andrew Stockdale, By the Sword. One of my favourite slash solo's of all time.

Like M4L ... I play the albums over and over. Over the years, this my most played would be

    Smashings - Siamese Dream
Foo's - Colour and The Shape
    Tool - Undertow / Anema / Lateralus
Faith No More - King For Day / Angel Dust

    Recent times ...

Alice In Chains - Jar Flies / Dirt
    Metallica - Black album
    Foo's - Colour & Shape
    Pink Floyd - The Wall

    Constant repeat

    Siamese Dream
    Undertow
    Aenima
    Superunknown
    King for a Day
    One by One

The actual album I probably listen to most now in its entirety is Anthrax's Stomp 442. Because it's not on Spotify so I listen off my phone

From the CD days Gatecrasher Global Sound System and Discotheque got worked to fuck.

@mn5 Yeah, I should have some chilis' in there. Funnily enough, I'd say my favourite albums are CAlifornicatoni / BSSM, but the one I've listened to the most is probably By The Way.

    Odd how life works.

At Uni we thrashed Sublime, Counting Crows, RHCP's and Smashing Pumpkins more than anything else I can remember.

Before Uni, it was PJ 10 and a LOT of Snoop

yeah. However here's a challenge for you. Try to listen to a full Wolfmother album. Or even a spotify playlist.

Bet you don't last 5 songs before you're bored.

One Hot Minute, Mother’s Milk and the Uplift Mofo Party plan are brilliant. Even the first two are decent enough too

Sheee-it. It's been a long time since I proper thrashed an album.
And even longer since I listened to Smash. After the abomination which was the album one or two after that... I wouldn't have ever admitted to owning an Offspring album.
With my music collection sitting in the UK, it's probably about time I started downloading albums in the order I first heard them, and re-living my younger years in true middle-aged man style.z.

That is a great point. Who does nowadays with playlists ? My car was in the panel beaters for a week so had to borrow my Mums....Angel Dust was in the CD player......from the last time I borrowed it. Still a terrific album.

I originally wrote some long bullshit about how I was an early adopter of selecting the "random" option - even back in the day of my 3-CD Aiwa stereo system.
But yeah, nowadays, I typically just have several dozen CDs, or artists, thrown onto the phone - and the random option on.
Only a few times in the last few years have I decided to listen to a full album start-to-finish... and each time I did - I didn't regret it.
The last Pretenders album - I listened to that several times in a row - that was good.

I'm looking forward to, if I remember, restocking my music collection - year-by-year, and doing a good solid middle-aged man revisit of my original musical "journey", all over again.

Working from home has changed that for me. Been listening to a lot of old school albums in their entirety.

Yeah a mate of mine ( basically housebound since Covid ) has done that lots too......the ones I listed are ones that have few ( if any ) songs worth skipping. No matter how much you like a band and album that’s pretty hard to do, most have a dud or two.
