@dogmeat -all good. The Chileans have actually legitimately jabbed a lot of arms.
Their potential problem is that 80%+ of their vaccines were the Chinese ones.
Not as effective at preventing coronavirus infection. In saying that, they'd likely still be a pretty good prophylactic against death and severe level of illness.
I don't have a problem with the data showing many countries (including Chile and Mexico) ahead ... because it provides us with a needed kick up the arse.

@voodoo I don't dispute the accuracy of the NZ figures at all but the Israeli and Canada ones are clearly BS - Don't trust a politician - especially brandishing a chart.
Anecdotally not BS - if anything finding the 30% of adults not vaccinated is the the hard part. A couple of factors at play:
Toronto has been under some sort of lockdown since early October. Indoor dining has not been allowed since the start of the pandemic. Non-grocery retail hasn't been open in since pre-Christmas. Other areas of the province have had slightly more lax restrictions at times (not much, non-grocery retail has been closed for all but a month province-wide in 2021) - but its' safe to say that everyone is pretty keen to open things up ASAP. Everyone sees a clear relationship between getting the vaccine and things getting back to normal - this doesn't seem to be the case in Aus/NZ (Melbourne perhaps is changing).
The initial roll out was super slow until it ramped up in late March/April, once the under 40s finally got a crack there was no messing about.
Drug stores/pharmacies are ubiquitous in North America (almost every grocery store or Walmart has one too) almost all these are dispensing them plus the large regional centres in arenas/community centres etc. At least at first I know Aussie were mainly rolling it out with GPs only which seems slow as.
Just given the psychology of the country and universal healthcare it doesn't surprise me that 10% or so more Canadians would get the jab than the US.

The Prime Minister says vaccines won't open the borders.

i am starting to really fucking hate that man.
Considering i thought the idea of the vaccine was to stop the impact of the virus more than the virus itself (@Tim help me out here) maybe we stop talking about case numbers and start talking about hospitalisations?
Also, and this cannot be stressed enough, Australia. Is. Not. The. UK.

Queensland’s chief health officer Jeannette Young argued just because the couple was vaccinated, it didn’t mean they couldn’t spread the virus. “We still need to work out what the ongoing risk – if someone gets infected, who’s fully vaccinated – what is the risk for them to pass that virus on,” she told reporters
with messaging like this (from an article on why the Qld Government wouldn't let a couple see their premature son as described above) is there any fucking winder the vaccine take-up is slow???
Let's look at the messaging
Media = "BLOODCLOTS!!!!!! OMG you'll totally die!"
Feds = Vaccine doesn't mean shit, the borders aren't opening
States = vaccine doesn't mean shit, you'll still quarantine if someone sneezes in St Kilda, and you can still spread it and shitA LOT of people will read those and think "why the fuck should i get it?"

The UK has 1048 people hospitalised with covid (https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/healthcare). On a strict population basis that would have Australia at less than 400.

Runners and water carriers masked up at AFL game in Adelaide. Crowd maskless. Coach must mask when walking onto the ground then takes off mask.
Theatre, nothing more than that. The authorities think we are so dumb. Farcical.
Edit. Spectators must mask entering and exiting and walking around Adelaide oval, but not required to mask when seated.
Clever virus the Adelaide variant

it was the same when Qld had their "mask mandate" i went to a Taipans game, and had to wear everywhere except as soon as i was seated. Apparently you are immune to COVID if you are sitting down

the life hack is, when you are on a plane, always have some food in front of you, because you are also immune to covid if you are eating, and you are allowed to take the mask off. my advice is order beers.

Canberra Stadium prevents you from standing around on the concourse. But you can line up to purchase food and drinks, go to the toilet or sit next to people for nearly two hours unmasked, because the virus can't get you then.
These rules are so obviously ridiculous and drive contempt for them and those making them.

For someone who is lauded for being a political genius Morrison struggles to make the most basic reads of public sentiment - worse than any PM since Keating. If he thinks the public will be throwing roses at his feet like in WA and Queensland come March next year he is delusional.

To be fair, stupid rules didn't just start with Covid. The one I always liked is that the blokes who hang out in the smoking areas of the RSL aren't allowed to consume food there. They have to eat their burgers with the non-smokers before slinking back to the haze.
So idiotic.

After all my whinging about the slow rollout of the Gates 5G chip to 40-49 year olds after Gladys made a song and dance about it, I forgot to update the thread to say I'm finally getting it done today. And at a centre with in walking distance ... no hike out to Homebush.
Still some weird stuff going on though. My mate who lives with a hospital worker should have been eligible before me yet he wasn't given a booking until the day I get my second jab.
