@duluth It’s amazing how much you can recover in a week after being unconscious 🙄

    Absolute joke

And far more instrumental in long term damage IMHO

Time to bring back mandatory 3-week lay off

Clearly, Luke Cowan-Dickie shouldn't be playing Rugby for a few weeks. Very worrying indeed that the British and Irish Lions management are willing to jeopardise the long-term health of one of their players. Poor form. I hope they think again and he doesn't take the field.

They’re not passing him fit though are they?

Surely it’s his employers who are ‘sub- contracting’ him to BIL

And the BIL coaches who clearly don’t give a fuck.

That’s wrong and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Look we both agree that he shouldn’t be playing but once he’s passed his club’s protocols, what the policy and culpability after that?

Being a human being who gives a fuck about whether someone, who is in your responsibility, being able to remember their grandkid’s names in the future?

If that is the criteria for discussion here, we can shut this place down.

Why on earth not take care of the player and give them a chance later?

I’ve got a lot of shit things to say about Steve Hanson, but he’d have made sure this guy wasn’t playing.

@mikethesnow One for the lawyers certianly in terms of finance issues.

But morally the correct action is obvious. If the B and I management have seen that video how on earth can they pick L C-D today and then talk about players' welfare ever again? He must be withdrawn.

What worries me most here is that the B & I coach is Warren Gatland who due to coach a NZ Super franchise next season. Absolutely appalling that a senior NZR coach could have so little concern for a player's long term welfare.

Perhaps we should mention George North to Gatland?

Christ pull the reigns in on the moral high horse

If you’ve followed / go back through the head injuries threads you’ll see I’m the biggest advocate of a 3-week sit down for concussion like it was when I was playing.

Should he have even been allowed to fly, let alone be picked?

    I DON’T KNOW

    And that’s the point

I’m trying to distinguish between moral opinion and World Rugby policy and protocol.

    Examined on pitch
Presumably failed HIA and sat the rest of the match out
Had subsequent HIA at recognised time intervals post-injury and at some point he passed.

Given the go ahead by his club doctor

Passed BIL medical to join tour

    What’s next?

Garland ignoring the policy, protocol and current science and saying see you in a couple of weeks?

@mikethesnow Good summation Mike. Logic tells us that he shouldn't be playing but we are not party to the medical evidence. Rob Baxter is very hot on player welfare at Exeter so I would assume that LCD has passed all the protocols there are and I cannot see Gatland and co going against any guidance from the Exeter medical team, no matter what his own medics might say.

So. Comfortable win for the good guys but not sure what the take aways will be. Russell did some good stuff but he also gave us some buttock clenching moments. Welsh wingers finished very well. Lawes put in a shift. Watson was ever present. I like him as a lion but when he’s playing against England, he’s an annoying little shit.

Oh and a message to Eddie, Daly is 88.25% more effective at 13 than 15.

Edit: I like him a bit better knowing now that he is actually an Englishman. Bloody poaching Scots.

Just watched a replay of this game. The B&I Lions' backs looked slick and played at a good tempo. The forwards were physical.

I'm not sure of the strength of these SA teams at the moment though without their Boks.

I also thought that there were obvious differences in how Jacobs refereed the breakdown compared to what we have seen in SRA. I was also surprised that Rees-Zammit wasn't at least penalised early in the game for taking out a Lions player in the air. It didn't look like he was really contesting for the high ball.
