@mikey07 What about Loni Uhila at LH and Ben Tameifuna at TH? Both are still playing in France though.

@mikey07 Yep, Rugby Club Hyères Carqueiranne La Crau to be precise. He's very much at the end of his career.

@bovidae Yeah, still quite a few players in NZ on that SR fringe who may be considered, especially because many players in Europe aren't available.

@stargazer Apples and Oranges. From what I’ve seen of Love so far he looks to be a better prospect long term. He’s bigger, he’s better defensively, I think his all round game is better and I think he is the 10 for the future. Love is certainly better if you compare where McClutchie was at the same age.

I think it’s a little over the top saying he’s the coaches pet, but I guess that’s an automatic tag that you Hawkes Bay lot put on Wellington players these days.

Anyway, when they square off against one another we will get the real picture.

@canes4life Personally I'm bloody happy McClutchie got a contract, he deserves one. I also hope Tom Parsons, and Geoff Cridge pick one up as well. Loves a good player no doubt, but I honestly believe the Hurricanes missed a trick in not signing these 3 players.

I know tackle percentages aren't everything, but Love is at 58% tackles completed, and McClutchie is at 83% for the current NPC season.

@billsy111 the Canes should have signed McClutchie, I agree on that. He’s better than both Morgan and Garden-Bachop but to me there is a high chance he would play second fiddle to Love long term, so he’s probably better off signing with M.P. especially if he’s going to be the king pin there.

I raise this question to everyone on this thread, if you had to pick McClutchie or Love as your long term 10 who would you pick? My assumption as to why McClutchie hasn’t cracked a Super Rugby contract with any team in NZ is probably down to ?? around his size and ability to step up to the next level. The good thing now is that McClutchie has a chance to prove his doubters wrong by playing solid rugby for MP, where he may never have got that chance if they didn’t exist.

I wish the lad all the best.

    That's classic c4l.

I'd take McClutchie over Love in a heartbeat. Unless I was trying to make my team look rudderless.

@bones I will be fairly happy to say ‘I told you so’ when Love pulls on the black jersey in the future.

Get used to the name Bonesy, Love has already shown glimpses of brilliance even at the raw age of 20 and is only going to get better.

I'm pretty used to the name Bonesy already.

What I'm not a fan of is watching my team get pumped because the guy supposed to be doing the steering hasn't got his licence yet. OH BUT WOW CHIP KICK TRY WHICH NO ONE IN THE HISTORY OF RUGBY HAS DONE!!!!

Anyway, I'm pretty confident McClutchie will show more than Love in his first year of SR.

I wouldn’t quite go so far but the kid certainly looks like he has something. Just needs to add the other parts and experience.
He is no BB, Carlos, DC or Cruden at the same age.
How are your previous star calls going btw?

@bones lol he was 19 last year when he made his Super Rugby debut, of course he hasn't developed yet, but he showed plenty of class in the cameos he made to suggest he's going to be something special. What was Lincoln doing at the ages of 19, 20 & 21? Oh that's right, he couldn't even get a contract with any of the NZ Super franchises, but you're adament he will be better than Love in his first year...righto.

@Crucial you mean Peter Umaga-Jensen? He's trucking nicely thank you very much. He's been pretty dominant for Wellington this year (and last year for that matter). Already been capped by the All Blacks and will be looking for a big year at 12 (unless Holland decides to leave him out again). Cam Roigard, well he's injured but I'm looking forward to seeing what he has when he makes his return down the track. Devan Flanders, expect him to be an AB in the next World Cup cycle. Ardie Savea, well the man speaks for himself. Oh, and Jordie Barrett, he just saved our blushes against South Africa didn't he?

Not sure what you're getting at?

I never said adamant. But see above, if I was adamant, it wouldn't be hard to believe. JGB is a better 10 than Love at the moment. Love is a fairly handy fullback from what I've seen, but you're not talking about fullback...

@bones this is the thing, we have completely different pictures of what makes a good 10. JGB has had plenty of chances to shine and has done f all in his time at the Hurricanes.

Love, however was thrown in the deep-end because of JGB's misfortune and did bloody well when he probably didn't expect to play any minutes in 2020. A little harsh to say he did f all.

If the below is f all at 19, then you're a hard one to please:

@canes4life I'm not hard to please. A fleeting moment out of many doesn't make a player.

@bones but a player hasn't peaked at 19 which suggests a fleeting moment of brilliance at that raw age is only a small snippet of what is to come.
