With us knocking over 2 wickets on 199 we didn't really make the most of bowling at 2 new batsmen at the crease... needed to be more proactive in those last 20 overs before stumps, especially early in their innings.
Day 1 - South Africa : 238/3 (90)
We were pro-active. Just couldn't catch. Could have easily been 220/5 and into the tail for more.
They weren't proactive enough for me... when a new batsmen comes to the crease they are at their most vulnerable, that's when we really need to put the squeeze on with very attacking field placings, only has to be for very short periods, an over or two, if it doesn't work go back to regular field placings, in that type of situation you have nothing to lose, but plenty to gain.

Did you actually watch the play?
When the two newbies were first in we had a ball at the end of its life. Putting in a full slip cordon is a total waste of time and reduces the ability to put the bats under pressure from plugging holes.
One of those catch drops was from a short mid on. Would you rather that guy was in the slips?Didn't mean to put in more slips... meant we could've had two fielders close in either side of a new batsman to apply more pressure before he gets his eye in.

Yeah, we can't afford to drop a lolly like that, hard enough to get a wicket as it is.

ona slow-ish pitch, ya got to roll the opposition twice in two 1/2 days to win, though. It's a fair old ask. Unless the pitch falls apart, it could have draw written all over it

Not use to Henry bowling slower balls... but looked like he meant to bowl a slower one.

Henry is a much better bowler now that he has more variation to his bowling... adding a slower ball & can also swing it as well, great stuff.

If he can stay fit he will find his way back. Has the potential to be part of the backbone of the side for much of the next decade
