Surprised Hunt as a captain, is hunt captain of Ta$man?
I'm surprised Hunt is starting at 10 let alone the captain... surely Marty Banks would be a better option at 10.

gt12 pretty well sum up the responses that come to mind, Marty Banks???? -

There’s way too much chopping and changing. It’s obvious to the fans who should be starting so why can’t Holland see it.
Iose over Kirifi
Flanders over Prinsep
Goosen over Savea
Umaga-Jensen over ProctorFfs it’s not rocket science.
Yeah, too much bloody musical chairs stuff going on, when it's very early in the season we need to be sticking with our best team so we can get some continuity & flow going... agree what you're saying about Prinsep, J.Savea & Proctor, but I'd have Kirifi over Lose.
We need to get the right combo's in there like :
Locks : Scrafton/Sangster
Loosies : Flanders/Kirifi/Savea
9 & 10 : Judd/Love
Midfield : Umaga-Jensen/Sullivan
Back 3 : Barrett/Rayasi/Goosen
Not too sure about the Front row, probably Aumua at hooker & Numia as one prop... Lomax showed very good promise early in his career, hasn't really come through after that though.I think you maybe haven't been watching Rakete-Stones , him and Lomax are I think the obvious starting props we have at moment, along with Aumua .
By the way it's Kirifi over Iose, not Lose, I used to think it was Lose too.
Scrafton we not seem to get in there as he injured isn't he? So is Sangster at moment. -

gt12 pretty well sum up the responses that come to mind, Marty Banks????Not saying Marty Banks is that great, but he certainly offers more than Hunt who is a pretty average 10, he doesn't have that much gas to keep defences guessing, he's predictable... compare him to Love who is clearly a much better 1st-five.

So is Sangster at moment.Canes have always struggled in the prop area, so still not that convinced there at the moment... with all the changes Holland makes weekly you're never sure if a player is injured or not, thanks will say Iose next time.
When Perenara came back from Japan last year his form was very lacklustre, he's too good to play that poorly again this year, wonder when he returns ?
With all these cases out lately we are lucky to be able to watch any rugby.

...you dont remember hunt smoking Jordie last year? straight line gas is one of the things hunt does have
-
@nzbloke I'm happy with our starting front row, they held their own against the Crusaders. I think Rakete-Stones, Aumua and Lomax are our best combination, even when Coles returns.
Hopefully all our props learn alot from having Owen Franks in the side, we should only get stronger in this area.

I think he's not a bad playmaker either, his passing game can be really nice from 10.
On him and Ioane, with Garden Bachop coming through, I don't know that you would see that combo anyway, but I see your point.
I think he's two injuries away from playing for the ABs and I'd expect him in the AB15 side to be named this year. It will be interesting who they also name there (e.g., Burke, Love).

@gt12 yeah, was more of the thought before CGB broke out, or as was mentioned in last weeks thread i also thought CGB did very well on the wing last year so i think it could have worked...especially seeing we seem to really struggle with our wings

With Nareki out and Alaimalo at 11, that migt have worked, but with Nareki and Alaimalo, CGB would have to be at Fb or on the bench in that case.

Hunt was excellent when the Highlanders beat the Crusaders last year. So he can perform to a very high std at times

If he was in a position to play (and showed anything like his former form), I think your backs would be looking much more dangerous - his size, speed, and high ball ability would really help.
-
@gt12 definitely, i was pretty excited when he signed, big and strong and looking to own his spot at 15....and we've got one game out of him. not bagging him as he obviously has some personal stuff to sort out but it feels our whole strategy was relying on him...and then we were lucky CGB stepped up...but then he got injured...and nareki got injured....and now we're still trying to settle on a good combo

Injuries are the curse of our game aren't they? We got the same in Canes with all the decent sized locks crocked, plus Owen Franks and TJP!

That's where the huge difference between the Saders and Landers becomes apparent. Your top team without injuries is fucking dangerous, but two or three injuries and suddenly you are relying on NPC newbies that were not wanted by other franchises.

Ok mate, respect that's your opinion, but just to me Marty Banks has always just been a fairly good 10 at best, and he certainly past his best now, no disrespect to him, but his legend is probably what we get excited about, rather than his ability these days..

Mate I hoping TJP comes back in good nick, and in better form than last year with ABs, on that form he would struggle to be in top 3 halfbacks in NZ and for All Blacks.

As much as I love TJP for most of his career, he's clearly not top 3 anymore.
