Hurricanes vs Highlanders

@gt12 yeah, was more of the thought before CGB broke out, or as was mentioned in last weeks thread i also thought CGB did very well on the wing last year so i think it could have worked...especially seeing we seem to really struggle with our wings

With Nareki out and Alaimalo at 11, that migt have worked, but with Nareki and Alaimalo, CGB would have to be at Fb or on the bench in that case.

gt12 pretty well sum up the responses that come to mind, Marty Banks????Not saying Marty Banks is that great, but he certainly offers more than Hunt who is a pretty average 10, he doesn't have that much gas to keep defences guessing, he's predictable... compare him to Love who is clearly a much better 1st-five.
Hunt was excellent when the Highlanders beat the Crusaders last year. So he can perform to a very high std at times

If he was in a position to play (and showed anything like his former form), I think your backs would be looking much more dangerous - his size, speed, and high ball ability would really help.

@gt12 definitely, i was pretty excited when he signed, big and strong and looking to own his spot at 15....and we've got one game out of him. not bagging him as he obviously has some personal stuff to sort out but it feels our whole strategy was relying on him...and then we were lucky CGB stepped up...but then he got injured...and nareki got injured....and now we're still trying to settle on a good combo

Injuries are the curse of our game aren't they? We got the same in Canes with all the decent sized locks crocked, plus Owen Franks and TJP!

That's where the huge difference between the Saders and Landers becomes apparent. Your top team without injuries is fucking dangerous, but two or three injuries and suddenly you are relying on NPC newbies that were not wanted by other franchises.

When Perenara came back from Japan last year his form was very lacklustre, he's too good to play that poorly again this year, wonder when he returns ?With all these cases out lately we are lucky to be able to watch any rugby.
Mate I hoping TJP comes back in good nick, and in better form than last year with ABs, on that form he would struggle to be in top 3 halfbacks in NZ and for All Blacks.

Judging Fakatava on pre injury form?
I’d be happy for him to get back there but judging only on what we have seen so far he isn’t
His decision making was as slow as TJPs. Pass was snappier.I think Christie has risen in the rankings. If we are going to play at speed he is second best.

...you dont remember hunt smoking Jordie last year? straight line gas is one of the things hunt does have
You hardly ever see him run at the line... if you look at his opposite in this match Love, he's more creative & certainly has more pace than him.

Yeah, realize that about Banks, but may as well give him a crack as not that impressed with Hunt.
I'd expect Perenara to play much better this season, if he plays like last year through the whole of this years comp he definitely wouldn't deserve to be selected in the AB squad.

@nzbloke I'm happy with our starting front row, they held their own against the Crusaders. I think Rakete-Stones, Aumua and Lomax are our best combination, even when Coles returns.
Hopefully all our props learn alot from having Owen Franks in the side, we should only get stronger in this area.
Fair point about that front row, the more time they play together the better they'll operate as a combo, if Coles does start he'll play a lot less game time because of the age factor, at this stage of his career maybe bring him off the bench.
Saw an article a few weeks back saying that Franks is hoping to play very late in the comp, just shows how well his rehabilitation is going... as you say if he doesn't play he's going to be huge in terms of giving the other props great advice.
