Hurricanes vs Rebels

@canefan to join his bro at the Highlanders is my guess. Otherwise overseas potentially.
If true, Highlanders could have a pretty strong backline next year (at full strength):
Fakatava, Gilbert, Nareki, TUJ, PUJ, Solomona, CGB... Tomkinson's leaving right?
-
@kiwi_expat bringing back the Scots College trio that won the National title a few years back would be cool. It’s funny though because I always thought all of them would have played for the Canes together.

Happy to be wrong, but I am reserving judgement on Gilbert for a bit. See how he goes against the better teams first.

I'll be gutted if he is pulling up trees for the Landers next season. Hard to believe he was on the AB fringes not so long ago
Yeah Holland completely destroyed his development. He obviously didn’t see what was so obvious to most of us. Ahh well, I hope he goes down there and plays well for them.
Do you think there could be an ever bigger opportunity missed by Holland not trying PUJ in the 15 jersey with Jordie currently at 12?
PUJ has played quite a bit of rugby for Wellington at fullback (If remember correctly, was also playing there for NZ U-20's) & it would mean he wouldn't have to worry about defensive & organizational responsibilities in the midfield.
His attacking game & ability to break the line with ease is just too great to not have him playing in the back three at least. Jordan Petaia went a similar way - played in centres then pushed into fullback/wing by his coaches.

So Fidow needs to head south too?
-
@kiwi_expat No, PU-J hasn't played at fullback since 2016 (7 games for Wellington, 1 for NZU20). He's not the one you'd shift to fullback if Jordie is moved to 12. Moorby, Love makes much more sense; maybe even Proctor.
PUJ really is best in the midfield. -
@Stargazer chuck Peter on Julian's wing then, Savea is getting on almost 32 now.

PUJ really is best in the midfield.I can't get his cameo in black out of my memory, he didn't look out of place. Yet somehow he could barely make the bench most of the time in Holland's team. I hope we don't look back and rue Holland's tenure as being responsible for screwing up an entire generation of very good Canes talent

@FakatavaFuture oh ffs hope this doesn’t derail us. Losing two hookers is painful. We could have coped if it was just one.

Sickness (not Covid) has affected the Hurricanes on game day. Coles, Aumua, Rayasi, Goosen, Booth all ruled out. Asst coach Chris Gibbes also absent
@newstalkzbsport -
That explains why PUJ didn’t play for his club today. Would have been given the late call.
Two hookers at the same time is a bit niggly.

Cost a bit too I'd imagine.
-
Sad for Goosen as that would have been his last game for the Canes on home turf.
-
Hurricanes will be performing a haka for the first time.
-
@Canes4life hopefully the late call-ups have been practicing too!
-
@KiwiMurph haha imagine if they haven’t.

Franks didn't bother
