Movie was such a steaming pile of self-indulgent shit it on its own justified the rise of punk.
That and Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
I'm a big Genesis fan but that album really is a wank-fest.
It’s a fine line.
I think all the members of Zep having their own symbol was the ultimate height of rock star wank.
I read in Mike Rutherford's autobiography that when Genesis took over a recording studio LZ had been recording in, they found all sorts of nasty shit in the bedrooms - including shit. Rutherford and co. suspect there was some sort of black-magic stuff going on.

Yeah I think they had their “quirks” to put it mildly.
I’m not exactly comfortable with Jimmy Pages “relations” with that teenage groupie either !

Macca mentioned that in Famous Groupies IIRC
There was a lead guitarist who lived in Epping Forest
And all he ever wanted was to blow
(Who knows why but)
But when the girls were with him he never lost his rhythm
'Cause nobody knows what the famous groupies know
(alright, girls?)
And nobody goes where the famous groupies go -

Apparently Hendrix wasn’t a fan of Zep at all because they “stole everything”
Well, stole everything without giving credit to the original writer like he always did.

Have tried, but can never get into Hendrix. Bit like Bob Marley - can see why he's influential, but his actual music does nothing for me.

I can’t stand Marley, never could. I hate that Rasta shit.
Live Hendrix is great fun though and he changed the game in terms of guitar playing ( but then again I know people who acknowledge him without feeling the need to listen to him )

@Victor-Meldrew Not a fan of Real incredible aerosol kid then?
But it's the Ulysses of Concept albums .... at least according to this piston wristed gibbon
Dumb bastard doesn't realise how apt that comparison is in most peoples eyes (or ears)
Hard to believe Gabriel went from The Lamia to Solsbury Hill in one album
I like Hendrix and Marley
-
Whether it was Gabriel being allowed too much control or not, I find the whole thing a self-indulgent mess. Trying way too hard to be clever, they lost the quirkiness and charm of their previous stuff. Gabriel leaving after Lamb was fortuitous as the others went on to Trick of the Tail & Gabriel went in a different direction and re-invented himself.
Don't dislike Marley & Hendrix and admire the talent and their influence. Have tried to get into them but just can't.

I love Hendrix but I’m not even triggered by your comment because I kind of get it. Before him guitar playing was all jingly/jangly Beatles/Byrds/Rolling Stones shit. He ABSOLUTELY changed the game and pretty much single-handedly invented the guitar hero. He did stuff no one had thought of……he had soul, coolness, charisma and uniqueness……and it was all gone so soon.
But it’s hard to say when I last had a good listen of the great man which I guess is the whole point.
Marley ? like I said before on the whole I can’t fucken stand Reggae and all it’s ghastly sub genres that kiwi bands have immersed themselves in. “Could you be loved” is a good singalong I guess…..
Strangely enough I do genuinely like this song though

Just popping in for an unashamed skite - smashing the Hyde Park BST this year, caught Elton a couple of Friday's ago, man what a performer for his age, made Tom Jones last year look like a pretender. Still got it.
Two days later was back for the Eagles, what a bunch of absolute pros. So clean and just perfect, could almost be listening to the recording. Had Deacon Frey standing in for Glenn, you wouldn't guess if you had your eyes closed (like he and his dad do when singing). Even played "Those Shoes" which apparently is quite rare - my strong fave of theirs so was stoked. Robert Plant played before them. John McEnroe and Patty Smyth came on to play the finale too which was fun.
On to Duran Duran this Sunday!
What time is Joe Cocker playing ?
About the same time I'm playing Jo Mama.

Mrs M's son trained as an electric
guitarist at BIMM and was semi-pro for a while. Knows and rates people I've never heard of like Guthrie Govan. Must ask him about Hendrix to get some insight.
EDIT: Apparently Billy TK is hugely rated by those in the know.He sent me a link to this guy who he says is changing the way the guitar is played as much as anyone has.

I’ve heard of him. He writes for guitar mags that I flick through occasionally.
Some of those Asian prodigies do some pretty mind expanding stuff but it’s not always particularly listenable.

Bit of background from Mrs M's son:
Guthrie Govan was a tutor there when I attended (BIMM). Steve Vai's guitar tech came to do a talk one day when Vai was in the UK and he'd never heard of Guthrie and was categorically blown away by how good he was. 10 year's later and Guthrie toured with Vai and Satriani on their famous G3 and he now, rightly, sits amongst the guitar lords of the day.

My son listens to Achika a lot. He's unbelievable. Tim Henson of Polyphia is of the same math-rock vein. Crazy talent.

Another of Mrs M's son's guitar heroes.

Also - to answer the title of this thread accurately, right now I am sitting in a hotel room in Rome, family all asleep, quietly Ferning while listening to some kid-genius on the violin in the piazza outside. Good times
