He plays like a classic structured 10, but without all the skills. They're there, but slow or inaccurate.

@nzzp Pretty much nailed it haha. He's just too slow and it stifles the attack, and he's always a chargedown waiting to happen because it takes so long for him to get boot to ball.

Rayasi, Dalzell and Jones have been standouts for Auckland so far.

@African-Monkey its staggering Auckland are not prepared to invest in Manukau Rovers first five Faletoi Peni who was outstanding in the Gallaher Shield final and throughout the club season but are prepared to stick with Simon Hickey who does’nt offer any running threat

@FakatavaAllBlack A weird player to come back for us. He played a couple of games for us in about 2016 before moving to Hawke's Bay for a couple of seasons. Not someone I would have imagined coming back.

@African-Monkey Dunn is one of many players who've returned from overseas and now play NPC. I wonder whether he, too, hopes to earn a spot in MP?

@Stargazer Yeah fair point. I think he's English from memory as well?

@African-Monkey Yeah, I vaguely remember reading that somewhere. He's also related to All Blacks Eddie and Ian Dunn.

I think I just saw half a dozen tackle breakdowns in a row with players from both sides staying on their feet!
Amazing. Made a nice simple clean game to watch. Contest was still there but no charging in and no killing the ball.
Trouble is that we won’t see that game at test level (especially this weekend)

Brave effort from Hickey, but he is rather small.

I'm guessing Hickey was on a multi-year deal. Coaches seem to love him despite the lack of production.
