They essentially started with the boring stuff at the start which is often dangerous in a show
If it wasn’t SW I probably woulda given up to be honest but there’s enough there to keep me interested now.
It was really a pilot split up as 3 eps. Can see why it was all released together.
I reckon it is very promising. The origin stuff is out of the way. I liked the way it didn't try too hard to be SW. No Stormtroopers, lightsabers, big baddies...yet. Just a proper story. This showrunner would have done a pretty good Obi-Wan I reckon although the trad SW does work with campness and pace better.I think the lasers, speeders etc definitely helped it feel more “Star Wars” in that last episode and after my initial gripe I’m accepting all the Poms as supporting characters.
Andor is obviously a bit of a scrapper and pretty ruthless so there’s enough there for me to care what happens to him. It should go without saying that he’ll have some run ins with Imperials down the line and I’m hoping there’s some memorable monsters/aliens too.
We know Mon Mothma is coming up and it will be interesting to see if they shoehorn in any other characters that we know. ( He’ll also meet K2SO for the first time as well )
I hope they keep the tie ins limited to the lead up to R1. Considering that SW is set in a whole galaxy it can seem like a small town at times with the random popping up of characters as fan fodder.
In the early (now legends) books the concept of these company run planets was common and made sense. The Empire had influence at threat over them but allowed them to be their own bullies. Meant someone else did their job for them. The oppression that triggered the Rebels came in many forms and many remained after the Emperor was toast.Hmmmmm I thought by this period the Empire was pretty much everywhere ? ( ie Storm Troopers stationed on Tattoine in ANH )
The guys who went after Andor were a security team contracting to the Empire, is that what you thought too ?
They were a company security team from what I saw. The boss guy explained the set up reasonably well in that he was reporting further up the company chain and no one wants heat or eyes on what they do, presumably because the company has to report to the Empire.
In other shows and books it has been fairly well shown that while the Empire had presence all over it was to remind places who could come in and apply heat if required. A threat.
Even Tattoine was left to it's own devices from what we have seen apart from a handful of Troopers showing the flag.Yeah true, it was implied that “The Hutts ran things” on Tattooine. There wasn’t a huge amount of troopers there.
Being Star Wars I would like Andor to come up against some Alien crime lord and use his wits to prevail.
I think this show may be more like Rebels for adults. Showing the oppression and formation of rebellion from a different angle and not quite so close to the main characters. Remember that no one really knew who he was in R1.
I'm not so enthused about Saw Gerrera appearing. Terrible character.Couldn’t agree more. There might be a backstory and cool action scene about how he lost his limbs but I’m not holding out too much hope.

I watched the first three episodes today, I think they were different ones (at least the first two) than you watched @MN5 as I've found all three pretty good.
Also, I thought they pretty much explained in the first ep that the company are essentially a vassal of the Empire and are charged with running the bunch of planets in the sector so that would explain why no Storm Troopers.
But, I'm slightly worried though that we wont be seeing the hot chick again.

and the problem they have...is his real back story (i think his sister was killed by the empire) is told in the animated shows, so unless theyre going to start re telling those theyre a bit screwed with so many not liking animated shows

The character itself and backstory aren't really the issue. I probably didn't explain my comment well. The characterisation by Forest Whitaker was terrible IMO.
Maybe it was the scripting/editing or assumption of knowledge from the animated shows but he was the worst character in Rogue One by far. Could never understand his role in the story properly and it all seemed to just jar badly. -
@Nepia from memory, he and his sister were independent resistant fighters during the clone wars loosely fighting with the clones/jedi against the droids, he was always a bit expermist and didn;t gel well with the structured way the clones did things, his sister died and so got more extreme basically always fighting against any form of authority
he didn't have all the breathing stuff and of you line up his appearances he slowly gets more stuff, my head canon is he just gave up, maybe finally thought someone else was going to take over from him

I enjoyed the 3 episodes. Thought it was smart to release the 3 at once given it was a slowish build up, but I personally didn’t mind that but could see why there would be some criticism.
On another note, finally watched the final episode of BoBF. Probably the best of the lot. I got through it but it’s probably been my least fave of all Star Wars. I’m still working through Visions (3 episodes to go).
I liked Bad Batch but I know that received mixed reviews.
-
@ACT-Crusader really liked 2-3 Visions episodes, really hope they are expanded upon

@Kiwiwomble nah. Lightsabers power up and power down in the time it takes to make a cool noise. Not on and off.
I'd like to think Lucas thought of that but I very much doubt it. -
4th episode of Andor, clearly another “set up” story because there was…..
##spoiler
…..absolutely NO action whatsoever. For a Star Wars nut like me ducking to avoid tie fighters doesn’t cut it I’m afraid. Was hoping Andor and that chick would encounter some kind of Alien on their trek through the
Scottish Highlandsplanet they were on…..but no.Mon Mothmas little breakdown at the thought of a dinner party belonged in a different show as well.
Sigh, will keep watching though

Shall we just warn you when there is an action scene?
I'm enjoying it. Agree that the scene you mention was a bit clumsy in providing a view to the situation though.
This is two series of 12 eps isn't it? I'm not expecting action all the time. I do like seeing the universe details though. Also loved that Mon Motha's vehicle gave strong vibes to Lady Penelope's FAB1.
Story is setting up for the first big action against the Empire though.

##spoiler
Andor continues at its glacial pace……
Imperial guy and his Mum……who gives a fuck and how is it relevant to the main story ? We never saw Moff Tarkin, General Veers or whoever having family time…..
Mon Mothma and her Hubby and daughter……..see above……
Andor and his gang of rogues……do we really need to see another episode of planning and discussing ? Han and Chewie never fucked around with that shit before a heist, they just got straight in there…..
Fairly sure I didn’t see a single droid or alien…….this is NOT Star Wars.
Rant over.
