@Billy-Tell I have been using SEs for years for the smaller format and ease of carrying around. The wife has just brought a 13 mini for the same reason.

My work phone is “standard “ size and if I have it on me I do tend to use it for reading news/fern etc on the train but I still like the smaller format for general calls and messages, music playing while working outside etc

I really like Face ID now which SE doesn’t have. If I’m honest I’d take a slightly larger phone but there is nothing between 5.4 and 6.1 in the apple range. I suspect they might bring out an SE/mini hybrid next time round.

I like face ID for general use but found print ID by far the easiest for Apple Pay and when in London that was my biggest phone use. Tube fares, payments, at the pub.....it just seems like you are in more control with a thumbprint and it is single step.

@Billy-Tell I'm an android user and used to have a Nokia 5, which was perferct in size (5.2in screen) & performance for my use. When it eventually died, I hoped to buy a similar size phone, but couldn't find a small android phone in the lower price range. I now have an Oppo that is bigger (6.5in) and, although it's a good phone, I find it too big. I guess I'll get used to it, but I can't wear it in my pockets anymore, meaning I sometimes forget my phone because it's lying around somewhere.

I did what I thought I'd never do and deliberately bought a smaller phone. In this case iPhone XR => iPhone 13 mini. I hesitated with buying the standard 13 (mainly because of battery life differences), but I never liked the way the XR took up all the space in a jeans pocket (wallet in the other), meaning keys went into back pocket. So far I'm pretty happy, the phone certainly has top-notch specs. You do need to charge at least once a day and if you spend a lot of time watching movies or scrolling through documents it's a little tiring. But the phone is very light and takes up a lot less space. If battery ever becomes an issue, there is the magsafe batteries. Anyone else deliberately gone smaller??

I have a mini as I can't stand the large ones, plus I have actual 4K tvs to watch stuff on so don't really watch anything on the phone.

But apparently they've sold so badly that they're not going to make them anymore. Which is weird as I was at dinner the other night and of the 8 of us five had minis, two had android, and one had one of the giant new ones.

You could just grab one to use for a few years? I'm going to hold on to mine as long as I can.

@Nepia too expensive! i decided to splash out on a decent case to make the current one last a while longer (although memory is running low), also curious if iphone is going to drop the lightning cable in favour of USB-C or just go completely wireless

    I don't use a case. Just adds extra bulk I don't want.

Are they still full price? I got mine on sale so wasn't too expensive.

@Nepia normally i dont but this one is 3 years old and a couple of small cracks etc so want to protect it, got a "good" one so less bulky than some...but still bulky unfortunately

as i said, we just brought a 12 mini for the mother in law (so two models old) and was only still over $1k so only maybe 10-15% cheaper than full price

Hmmm, I think I have a 12 as I got mine for less than $1k a couple of years ago (so I assume it would have been just before the release of the 13) - would have got my tax back too if not for Delta.

IIRC I actually bought one from Apple for around $999 and then Office Works had a sale a few days later and I returned the Apple store one. I think I wound up paying $890.

I think they might do when new products come out. I also wonder if I got the education discount, but I don't think they give it on phones, just laptops and iPads.

Just don't buy from Harvey Norman even if they are having a sale.

@Stargazer still not exactly cheap, over a grand for 256gb of a model thats 2 years old, you see what i mean, that age doesn;t save you loads...you need to also get refurbished...or drop down the memory or something

@Kiwiwomble Yeah, but you also pay for the brand. I chose android, which gives way more choice of brands and models, and I now have a budget phone with specs that suit me. It's only a bit bigger than I'd like, but I paid 345 NZD.

Don’t buy the 12 mini, poorer battery life compared to 13 mini. I waited until 14 came out which immediately pushed the 13 range prices down. Apple are very expensive though but I like them. 2 of my kids have android and I’m not impressed.

Had a Nokia a few phones back. Good phone, naked Android which is my main thing. But the charge port on it was flimsy and when it carked, I went back to Google Phones - last few years I've had Pixel 3a, 4a, and now 6a.

Fucking love the Pixel. For $599 (RRP $749) it is a great phone for what I need. Screen size @ 6.1in is good as my eyes start to give out 😀 and I love the Astral mode photography. Just need to remember to take the tripod and gimbals with me 😉

I went for a bigger phone this time around, but also went with a case that I can store cards in, so essentially it's my wallet also.

Plenty of decent options, plus I generally just use my phone)watch for tap payment anyway.
