Cranky the Cowboys couldn't keep him but he was getting limited minutes.

he's a 30 year old winger that is getting slower every month

been an enormous servant. But teams at the top can't afford sentimentality.

@mariner4life Yeah surprised they didn't do more to keep the hammer. Would have tried to move Feldt on personally.

    So Penrith won everything

Gus just formalised their best advantage. They have sole dominion over the best rugby league nursery in the world. They develop the wealth of talent, their team is stacked with local juniors because they ALL grow up wanting to be Panthers. There is nothing else out there, rugby league is king

Throw in Sydney's fucked up property prices actively pushing league demographic families in to their area and the rest of the league should be worried.

Their top side won't be as good next year without kikau and apisau, but I don't bet against them unearthing good replacements.

And because they are local boys, and lots are family oriented poly boys, it's very hard to buy them away.

What Penrith has done has ensured that the NRL won't provide salary cap exemptions for talent that is developed by the club.

With their junior competitions and the financial clout of the league club, they'd be certain finalists year on year.

Gus Gould has come out and reckons the only way to even the comp is to get rid of the cap

I assume his thinking is that the comp needs a couple of competing teams, so those that can't develop can just buy.

The result of this is that the clubs at the bottom are staying there.

Gus is a moron. Further proof you don't require a functioning brain to be moderately successful.

"You can buy talent" Yes Gus, at overs which ensures your club goes into unmanageable debt. Dickhead.

i can never work Gus out. It's pretty clear he's not a complete moron. He's widely respected by people who know the game.

But his public utterances are ridiculous.

Yes buying average players on massive overs has fucked over so many clubs. Penrith and to a lesser extent the Cowboys have shown the focus on development can pay dividends, along with a couple of astute signings.

The huge problem is, not all areas are the same.

Munster signs a 4 year extension contract with the storm turning down a reported 400-600 extra with the dolphins .

Apparently still getting a million a year anyway , how much extra do you need I guess if you are happy where you are .

Put it this way it was his pathway idea that he brought to life at Penrith that they are reaping the benefits of now which was also what he was trying to start at the Warriors before going to Canterbury.

He also had 2 premierships in his first 5 years of coaching, the guy has some genuinely great ideas and records to back up his actions.

As @mariner4life noted he also some shit ones and just lets everyone hear what he is thinking whether he has thought it through or not, not helped by being a dick head. Can be a useful one if on your team lol

TBH that's just a reflection on everyone else. Pathways aren't a new idea in any other sport.

He also had 2 premierships in his first 5 years of coaching, the guy has some genuinely great ideas and records to back up his actions.

He took over from Ryan while the club was arguably very strong, then his second year they were mid-table. Moved to Penrith which were strong before he got there, then they fell to the bottom half of the table. He's no Craig Bellamy.

No, but he is one of the few to implement it successfully

He still has results regardless of who he succeeded and where, which is more than most can say. Look my point remains he has had success of which others want to learn from or use him for. I don't think it qualifies him at all as an intellect, however success has a history of following him.

Plus he could probably make up the $400K by doing a few different sponsorships - add to that the lifestyle etc and I think he’ll be right.

In saying that he probably would’ve had sponsors lining up if he was the Man for the Dolphins - but that comes with even more pressure than he has now.

Fox League channel showing a bunch of classic test matches. They’re showing the drawn 93 Mt Smart match between the Kangas and Kiwis where we were robbed of a try.

Freeman, Halligan, Lomax, Nikau, Kemp, McCracken, Hoppe, Edwards up against some Aussie icons of the game - Langer, Fittler, Daley, Sirronen, Clyde, Harrigan, Hancock, Walters, Shearer, Renouf

@mariner4life great game. The hits were off the charts. Freeman played out of his skin. Periods where we were physically more dominant and then periods where we looked like we were hanging on by a thread.

They also showed that test where JT made that break at the end in extra time and offloaded to Lockyer for the game winning try. The Kiwis had a great forwards pack in that match.

The stark contrast to todays game were guys getting hit in the face and bleeding or getting hit and stumbling up to try and play the ball - and they all stayed on the field.

look we all know and lament the absolute state of the Warriors. But at least they have a few excuses.

There are other dumpster fires out there

The Tigers are obvious. Shit has obviously gone very wrong at St George

But Manly have powered over the top to lead the "shitshow stakes"

They are going to fire Des Hasler. Des who had a team in the 8 without the good Turbo. Who then lost the lessor Turbo. And Garrick. And a split playing group because rainbows are scary. Now they are losing Foran. But according to their Chairman they have a "premiership winning squad"

And now they are going to hire fucking Seibold as the failed coach merry-go-round continues.

Manly for the bottom 4. Especially if Tommy T walks.
