Canes v Tahs (and drinks?)
-

Good win in the end by the Canes. Not easy to do in Sydney.

Thought the Tahs yellow should have been straight red. I get that they have been ruling these as lands on back = yellow head =Red (which in itself is BS. But this wasn't a miss timed contest. It was an arrive late, see the other guy jumping, carefully line him up and take him out in the air. Deliberate, dangerous foul play and should be red regardless of how he lands.

Thought J Savea had one of his better games for a while bumping off plenty of guys. His taking of the high ball (from that cross kick specifically) is still a worry though.

A Savea probably a bit quieter than usual but at least he didn't get dragged early like Cane did in the chiefs game :fishing: :mocking:

I really struggle to enjoy watching the Tahs play, even when they lose. I think it is mainly because Kearns is usually whining away. I get the sense that even his co commentators get sick of his shit sometimes. I wish there was an option to just listen to the refs mic or alternate comm's rather than having to mute.

Next weekend is going to have a few huge games.
-

I haven't seen enough of these two, Savea and Savea, I know - however I have the impression they are really good at galloping down the field all by themselves, viewing what may and may not be achieved through a three metre wide narrow prism populated by no other human beings (other than those to be run over). They are big and strong and such but they are young and I'm not so sure they have been alerted to the quaint notion of going as far as you can then shoveling the ball to someone in a better position, early.

It's a bit difficult to come to terms with these limitations after a decade long steady diet of the craft, guile, wide perspective, anticipation, awareness of where support players are in relation to their path of travel, foresight, reliable hands and clever feet of Conrad Smith, Corey Jane, Ma'a Nonu, Aaron Cruden, Tana Umaga, Piri and so on.

I think these fellas have a way to go yet.

You hit the nail in the head...you ain't seen enough of them play if that's the impression they give you. If i did'nt know who they were and had never seen them play before, that impression would have me thinking they were your typical big strong island type rugby players, who enjoyed galloping around the field running over the top of players cos that was the only side step they knew lol.. They definitely ain't ball hoggers til its to late either type players.

P.s If they had a way to go yet?.....then why are both brothers in the mighty All Blacks?! Isn't that the pinnacle dream of every aspiring rugby kid growing up in NZ to be! :good:
-

I thought A Savea had a strong defensive game, every time the Tahs wide runners looked like slipping through a gap, he was there pulling off a tackle aswell as doing his defensive work around the rucks. Thought Folau was kept quiet cos it looked like Ardie was told to shadow Folau every time he ran the ball back, making a a'lot of tackles on him
-

Oh yeah that reminds me. For a guy rated as highly as Folau is, he certainly seems to go missing for large chunks of the game. This game he was even at 13 where he is meant to get the ball more.

Contrast that to the amount of time a guy like Ben Smith gets the ball or has a hand in a play and it's appears to be a significant gap (this is not necessarily backed up by stats. More of a "where has Folau been" vibe when he does make a break)
-

I think at 15 you would get more ball than at 13.

The idea that he was moved to centre to get more ball is not correct. More a case of Tahs don't have a 13 and they have a young promising fullback they want to give more game time to.

He was quiet in this game but has been very good this season. But he's far more dangerous and involved at full back. -

No way a centre gets the ball more than a full back in modern pro rugby

Foley hardly gave him the ball until it was too late.

He'd be a permanent member of the AB 1st XV in my opinion at 13 -

The Waratahs rely on their pack to win games and maybe could have been one score away from the tipping point to allow them to dominate (ie their game against the Chiefs). Props to the Canes for tackling despite being outsized and not allowing the Tah forwards the ascendency. The Tahs are a bit clueless otherwise.

He goes missing because he does not get the ball. Not sure that is his fault. I'm sure that put in a NZ who are not afraid to put their backs into action he would be worked into the game plan. Heck put him a second five if you can get him more touches.
-

I like the refs interpretation and the YC. Hate the impact red cards have on the game. No injury. Its was stupid but I'm good with it.
-

How does this Kearns clown keep his job?

Jeez he's a whingey whiney bitch.

Much like the Sydney crowd.

And reflective of the niggly bitch NSW players.

But Kearns in full on whinge mode, particularly in the first half, really detracts from the enjoyment of watching.

Sure he was right a couple of times. But wrong just as as often. And biased the whole time. -

You mean the wrestling for the ball on Foley? They were strangely quiet for Tahs infractions though - well, except for the pockets of Canes supporters.

As you say, that's what home support is for - although the crowd wasn't as feral this week as during the Chiefs game (and I had worse seats so you'd think I'd be near more bogans).

We had dipshit young guys sitting behind us the entire match talking inane shit. They're 23, how do I know this? They were discussing whether they were the same age as Taylor Swift and so they mentioned their ages about 10 times in the conversation.

I like the free buses from Central to Moore Park so I didn't have to wobble up the slope up to the ground.

How did that fat fella on the wing make a test team, and no I don't mean Savea (who was average yet again, tits for hands and his best run was a 20 metre bust going sideways across the field) but the prop sized Fijian for NSW?
-

Barrett was OK in that incident IMHO.

Reserve prop straight onto the face, less so. -

Was that is the same movement? I think that prop's arm was coming from behind Barrett so he actually would have had little idea of where his arm was. In saying that I was fine with a penalty for it - if only for the fact it kept the fans in our section from rioting - once they figured out the age gap between Swift and Loki.
-

Wife is not a native speaker of English so rarely makes much comment on what is being said during commentary, but even she though Kearns sounded miserable.

Great win for the Canes, Michael Cheika on the other hand will be worried given how poorly Australian teams have done this year.
-
