Open eligibility is the only viable way forward for South Pacific Rugby. But, the SR franchises have to be decoupled from the two governing bodies, they need to be independently, and preferably privately, run. SRP needs to be run as a professional league, not a glorified feeder competition for the AB's & Wallabies. It needs to run itself independent of NZR & RA. It needs to be a full season double round robin league, 22 rounds plus a final four. Obviously there would need to be dedicated international windows for the touring NH nations & TRC. The open sharing of players is vital as it will strengthen the Aussie clubs, which improves the overall standard of the league, but it also gives more NZ players exposure to professional rugby, which would add to their already incredible depth, plus it would improve the standard of Aussie players by playing alongside and being coached by NZ coaches. NZ would provide the playing depth, Aus would provide a much larger broadcast market. The league would have four timelines to schedule broadcasts. The league would in time generate enough revenue to pay players professionally, thereby reducing the financial burdens on the parent unions. Everybody wins.

@KiwiMurph whaaaattt, come back to the Canes Matty. At 30 he’d easily compete for an AB centre spot, especially with the guys running around atm. He was the best defensive centre in NZ when he left, was quality on attack too.

For some reason I had in the back of my head he had signed to go to France - might have muddled that up with Laulala. Intriguing that you are hearing he is staying, because I'd have thought he'd be a lock to head off-shore.

Couldn't tell you where (Might have been on here) but read Blackwell is heading to Japan. As for Prinsep, taken a slight liberty, I don't think technically it has been confirmed he is leaving, so should have been yellow, though he is highly unlikely to be back.

I also had Sa initially down as a lock, but noticed he played 8 for the Chiefs U20s... might be viewed as too short for lock? Wasn't aware Cashmore was with the Blues, kind of assumed the Chiefs were grooming him having allowed Kemara to head south. Guess Ioane is staying and they might run three 10s including Trask? Moli's comments the other day said to me that he is either going offshore or to MP, because his All Blacks dream is all but dead in the water. Profitt could well stay, hard to know what terms someone of his age would have signed.

Sa is 2 m tall, so definitely a lock. I don't remember him playing at no.8. That was Wrampling or Forbes.
I don't think that the Chiefs need to replace Retallick with a lock if all the other locks are retained.

Sa started 8 in the QF and v MP. Granted, Forbes and Wrampling were injured so perhaps they would have packed down there - I'm not familiar enough with the Chiefs region to know that so I'll take your word for it.

@Canes4life I know Canes fans don't rate Prinsep, but I thought you guys liked Blackwell? Not a world-beater, but a dependable member to have in the squad.
