@Nepia Imagine what the scoreline would have been like had the Magpies had a team stacked full of players good enough to be awarded Hurricanes contracts instead of making do with players that can't cut the mustard in their own Super rugby catchment.

Devery seemed to be taking the Ben Franks role of not looking all that happy with the win in those celebrations.

Despite losing I was really impressed with the team to go through so many phases and keep HB at bay for so long. The Wellington teams of old would’ve cracked easily under those conditions.

Man that was a great match. Shame Wellington supporters don't turn up in numbers for any of there teams.

Glad the shield can work on it's tan in the HB summer again.

I think Wellington are still the clear favorites to win it all.

Not trying to not pick but think we need to use some of our big runners inside/outside second receiver. MMT and flanders and Thompson much more dangerous out wider.

Anyway great for the blood pressure another 2 point or less HB win.

Great win for the Bay. Well done enjoy the log in the off season!

NB: Love this competition. Lots of close games, players keep putting themselves up for SR. Hope those corporate piston wristed gibbons at NZRFU and that tosspot of a CEO don’t screw over the provinces. They keep trying.

@J77 you say that like we’ve taken the Shield for granted. It’s been awesome seeing the Shield in the communities around Wellington. No need for stupid comments like that mate.

    HB deserve their victory.

Yeah, reckon all of the NPC teams appreciate the Ranfurly Shield. If Auckland won it, reckon people would go nuts for it, because they haven't had it for so long.

The players care. However attendance at Shield games have fallen off a cliff in the last decade or so.

@booboo would rather the Ranfurly shield then Brad Shields.

On the plus side if NZRU decide to destroy NZ rugby and get rid of NPC does that mean we keep the shield forever? Seems fair.

It's just Hawkes by the way, no The needed.

Good thing that NZR got that Silverlake money. Hawkes Bay can use their portion to repair the Shield.
