NSW Suburban Rugby have a strict amateur policy.

Realistically, it's more a matter of "don't get caught"

Everyone knows about it. Not many are dumb enough to get found out.

Gym today - working from home is the balls, now that the gym is open all day:

Squats - 5 x 5 x 115kg
Military - 5 x 5 x 45kg - backed this off after the injury. Felt good. Increase next time
Deadlift - 5 x 5 x 145kg - ready to move to 150 I think
Chinups: 6, 5, 3, 2, 1

Gym this arvo:

Squats: 120kg in 7, 7, 7 - that was hard! I've added a 5 x 70kg warmup and a deep squat to the warmup to help with the depth. Still not getting parallel but probably as deep as I can handle.

Bench: 75kg in 7, 7, 5, 3 - failed third set so added an extra rep for punishment. Will stick with this weight for next time.

Bent row: 75kg in 7, 7, 7 - last rep didn't quite get to the chest so that is where it will stay for now

Chinups: 5, 4, 3

Bam. Weekend!

Worth hanging about at 120ish on the squats and get your depth sorted? That'll lay a good platform for going heavier bro. Box squats are always a good variation to add in heavier work while still working on depth.

Enjoy that roll out bud!!

Still haven't got to the roller yet. Decided to eat first. And drink. And avoid the roller.

Did rolling. It sucked. Probably didn't do it right. Don't care.

To answer your other question: yes, 120 is probably where the squats stop for now. Need to be sure I can control that for 5 x 5 and with better depth.

The initial goal was 140kg but that was more of a 1RM scenario before i started 5x5

Flex in the ankles is lacking so I'm planning to spend more time each session with warm up, mainly involving mobility for calves and shoulders. That will rely on work NOT being fluffybunnys about watching the clock.

3 chinups.

Out.

The strength looks like it's coming back nicely pal, well done.

I suppose having a shit rugby team and a bad Olympic campaign helps add the necessary rage to shift tin ? ( sorry that sounds like something Virgil would say )

I don't think you're sorry. And it sounds exactly like something "Virgil" would say - if he really is someone other than you

Saw the Chiro today about the neck/vision thing - bunch of manipulations and bit of cracking. Heap of tenderness in the spinal area that felt a lot better after some release work.

Recommended I get a full spinal xray to make sure there were no potential issues given the areas I was having trouble with, so did that as well. Hopefully that, and the new bed we've ordered, will help with the neck and back issues

Tired as fuck today. Slept like a log for about 9 hours straight and having trouble thinking straight now.

Must mean the body is in healing mode or some shit. Time to dose up on water and lean foods to get this ball rolling.

Weigh in with the trainer last night - lost a bit of weight around the hips but I'm a while off fitting into the jeans I was wearing at 95kg 😉 Increases in upper leg and upper arm circumference.

The body fat testing guys will be back in about 6 weeks so will work hard on the lean goals between now and then. Stupid sugar diet...

Haven't been to the gym for a week as I get sorted out with the chiro and physio. Also having blood tests to check current health, and ultrasound to have a look any structural issues.

Spinal x-ray showed no signs of real issue but the slight lateral curvature of my mid-spine through the lumbar is very apparent. Got some exercises to do but need to buy one of these gigantic rollers to lie on and stretch my thoracic spine out on. Fuck all these exercises!

Who knew you had a genetic predisposition to needing a roller! Lucky man ha ha

But seriously, if you get that side of things right you'll be flying.

Ugh. First time back at the gym in 10 days. Just got bored with work, so headed home and decided to get some muscle work done.

Been in a bit of a mental down state since last gym session. Something about endorphins? Or the silent treatment from the wife. Maybe both.

Backed off the weights a little, because I don't want to undo all the chiro and stretching:

Squats 110kg 3 x 7

Bench 70kg 3 x 7

Bent row 70kg 3 x 7

Chinups 6, 4

Going to do a bit of recovery on the new roller I picked up at Rebel - needed a bigger one so I could do the back exercises the chiro wants.

About 90cm long so even my fat arse won't fall off it.

If you're feeling down bro I'd look to up the exercise - a few workouts should see you feeling better. Good call to work within yourself today - should be pushing those numbers again in a few sessions.

Would love to go running again, but can't even manage short sprints without getting this vision issue.

Have now had MRI, blood tests, ultrasound, and general examination. Nothing wrong physically/structurally.

Neurologist in a month from now. Besides the chiro, that's the last hope

Have been out of the gym because of this sore back. Chiro is working on my right hip which is rotated in a weird way, and that is not helping my lifting in any fashion.

So I'm avoiding squats for now, and working on isolating each leg as a starting point. Did some incline single leg press today at 100kg and then jacked it up a bit before going for both legs somewhere north of 200kg. In between that, did bench press 70kg and some bent row, before finishing off with chinups.

You may have already mentioned this, not sure yet but have you been to the Optometrist ? I went last week, good news for me is that my short sightedness is correcting itself as I get older and they predicted my vision will be back to 20/20 by my mid 40s. I also got told off for not cleaning my contacts well enough and keeping them for far longer than I should on account of my Scottish thriftiness and not wanting to spend money. I often wear my glasses but hate going out on sunny days without shades and it's incredibly hard to find bi focal glasses that don't make you look like a complete and utter rapist.

They also did a scan of my eyes and from that concluded that I'm generally pretty healthy, no bad cholesterol, diabetes etc.

Anyway, my point is they might discover something that the doctors can't ?
