They better lock down a decent coach fast. It might sound like heresy, but I feel like Mody may have reached his limit anyway. Despite his skills as a motivator, he was never able to find ways to utilise his bench and didn't seem to have any tactical plan B

Not NBL, but our U17 boys have had two very good wins at the World Cup. We beat the hosts Turkey convincingly in our first game and then last night beat Argentina. Argentina had two dominant scorers, but we went on an absolute tear in the 4th quarter.
Oscar Goodman has been our best player. He’s based in Canberra playing at the Centre of Excellence in a team that Dyson Daniels brother and NBA draftee Johnny Furphy’s brother.
Final pool game against Italy who were highly touted heading into the tournament but have lost their first two matches. Will be huge.

We lost to Italy but didn’t really impact us as we finished top of our pool.
We now play Egypt in the crossover game. Egypt lost all their pool games but are pretty tough. They just lost to the Aussies by 3 and then had a chance to win against Germany at the death but lost by a point.

A big win by our boys against Egypt and now we are in the quarters.
And what a win by the Tall Blacks against Croatia in the opening Olympic qualifier. We had no answer for Zubac (man I wish we had Stevie playing), but Corey Webster, a slim and fit looking Corey, was superb. Plus Shea and Izzy provided great support.

An assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this month has been confirmed as the new head coach of the New Zealand Breakers.
36-year-old Petteri Koponen from Finland has signed a two-year contract with a third-year team option. -
Oh well we got stung by Luka, who finished with a triple double. We went on a couple of scoring droughts and couldn’t hit anything. Olympic qualifying is over.

Woohoo, what a win by our boys. Upset Lithuania in the quarters. Was a bit concerned at half time because we hadn’t played that well and a couple of the Lithuanian’s were started to heat up. But what a second half. The intensity on defence was huge. Goodman again fired but Jackson Alan Kiss provided a real spark with his offence. Also Phil Jones’ boy was killing it on the glass and also got a few buckets including a big that his old man would’ve been cheering on.
I was very impressed by our pressure though and getting into the passing lanes and creating deflections and steals.
Now into a semi where we will play the winner of USA v Canada.

The USA defence is just stifling. Whether it’s full court press or in the halfcourt.
We are down by 35 at the half and the USA have only attempted four 3s (and hit one).Their inside game is too good.
Hopefully we can get the final score below 30. Their closest game in the tournament was a 23 point win against France.

I can't say I'm that enthused about the Breakers this season with a lack of Kiwi players on the roster (two of the twelve, and one of those comes from the NZ NBL). Also, Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Dane Pineau are the only players to remain from last year's squad. Some turnover!

When I saw we picked up Matt Mooney my immediate thoughts was I wonder how he and PJC will play together. Matt is a good 3pt shooter but he’s more of a PG and we know that PJC loves the ball in his hands.
Hoping that Mennenga can take that next step up.

@ACT-Crusader I'm only counting Mennenga and Darling who are part of the 12-man squad. King might be NZ-born but he wants to play for Aust. It just won't be the same without a core of NZ players in the rotation.

The New Zealand Breakers are in search of a new broadcasting home after long-term partners Sky Television have elected not to renew their contract with the Australian NBL.
Partly due to save on production costs of Breakers home games, but also because they (Sky) already pay for the rights to all NBL games via ESPN. The article says that TVNZ could be interested in being the broadcaster for this season.

I just home from Spark Arena, having seen the Breakers make hard work of their first home game and home win this season. Takeaways for me

The new coach is very calm, not robotic like Shamir but not crazy like Maor. It seems to filter down to the players

The coach plays a large rotation. I think he played either 9 or 10 players during the game. It paid dividends late in the fourth quarter, as SEM started to fade the Breakers showed good energy right to the end

No one in the team is afraid to not take a shot and score the ball. It could make us more dangerous, teams can't shut down one or two, they will have to keep an eye on the team

Just checking the results and await @mariner4life to surface after celebrating his mobs big tonkings of last year's two top sides this week - congrats that man. Will see how accurate those results were when they take on long time heavyweights Perth at home and Sydney away this coming week. Lucky they haven't got Brisbane or South East Melbourne this week where the wheels will probably be square rather than round if they follow their usual form of the past few years!!
