any news on club rugby players moving around, gains losses
eg matt garland moves from hawkes bay to whaka in bay rugby -
@Cpt-Kumera Are you sure it's the same Matt Garland as the Magpie? Because he won the Hawke's Bay 7s in Waipukurau with Napier Pirate just a few weeks ago.
-
@Cpt-Kumera Hmm, that's weird. Is it that easy to switch back and forth to different club teams? Or is 7s just more informal and doesn't it require registration with a union?
-
@Cpt-Kumera Just made some enquiries and Garland left Hawke's Bay because the HBRU didn't want to confirm his Mitre10 Cup contract for 2017 and BOP did.
-
yeah he was known to be down for whaka last month or 2 that I know of, any other players trying there luck other provinces

A summary of Waikato club rugby, which starts tomorrow.
Mainly focused on Guildford's debut but from the article a couple of Chiefs players (Allardice and McNicol) will be involved. I also note that winger Iliesa Ratuva Tavuyara has moved to France. I hadn't read any reports of his departure. The squads don't include any players training with the Chiefs and Steve Misa isn't listed in the Marist squad.

An interesting day at the rugby yesterday. Rugby was the winner in the end. The headline is a bit misleading.

Wellington 19-year-old rugby player dies after suffering serious injury during match
Really sad.
I am an active member of Dan's club and believe me the last week has been very difficult to get through. The mood has been sombre all week and quite frankly the boys had great difficulty in getting through todays games, their minds and thoughts were understandably elsewhere.
Dan's team had yet to record a victory this season but they paid the ultimate tribute in breaking that duck with a 26 - 03 win today. The aftermatch function and speeches were truly emotional and had many present struggling to fight back the tears.
.
Dan was the second active playing member we have lost recently and it is no easier the second time round. I sincerely hope that no one has to go through what we have had to this past week. The outgoing support we at the Axemen (Wellington Football Club) have received from too many people to mention this week has been heartwarming. One wonders how much influence Dan had from above in fellow Axemen Vaea Fifita's first try for the Hurricanes in 2017 tonight. A few members definitely benefitting from the $31.00 odds for Vaea being the first try scorer, say no more.
Remember we might have our differences from time to time but we are all members of the big family we call NZ Rugby. Never ever let that be forgotten.

I was at Dan's funeral earlier today, along with about six hundred to seven hundred others. It was really tough going saying goodbye to someone so young and who had his life all planned out and was making real good progress toward achieving those goals. A number of speakers spoke of the Dan they knew and loved, relating what a good all round, committed, loyal and hardworking guy they have grown up with. It captured all that I had experienced and come to love in my too short involvement in his life.
Dan was taken away from the service to a beautiful rendition of the song Daniel (don't think it was Elton John's version) which proved too much for many to handle. There certainly were not many dry eyes around where I was.
Dan was accorded a stirring rendition of the Wellington Football Club's Haka, E Toki, by those that had played alongside him as he was carried to the waiting hearse to leave the place he enjoyed so much for the final time.
Gone but never will be forgotten

Another club rugby player passes away far too young. Not due to injury, but geez, only 22 and leaving behind a wife and young daughter. Life can be cruel.
TASMAN RUGBY EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES FOR BEVAN MOODY Ta$man Rugby is expressing its deep condolence to the Moody family following the death of Waitohi Club player Bevan Moody. Bevan, 22, passed away this morning, Thursday 25 May, at Nelson Hospital surrounded by his partner, daughter and parents after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing in a senior grade rugby match at Neale on Saturday, May 20. “The thoughts of everyone in the Ta$man rugby community are with Bevan’s partner and family. This is a devastating time and our support and prayers are with them,” said Ta$man Rugby CEO Tony Lewis. “This is a massive shock to all of us. We are a tight-knit community and the death of someone so young has hit hard in his club and across Ta$man rugby. “Bevan had a solid rugby future ahead of him. He’s been a New Zealand Under 20 trialist and was on the fringes of the Ta$man Mako$. He was well known and liked, and is a huge loss.” The New Zealand Rugby Foundation and New Zealand Rugby also express their condolences and offer their full support to Bevan’s family and rugby community. Details of Bevan’s funeral will be made available shortly.
That's from the Ta$man Rugby FB page.
