Boks are back! That was a really good display across the paddock and the bench was excellent. Reckon nz could struggle in the republic.

Boks are basically the Brumbies of the early 2000s. Maintain possession through recycle and recycle.

If you keep a good defensive line then you will force them back. Argies had some good periods doing that. But they also lack patience at times in attack and defence.

Argies have to get rid of this policy of only selecting players from Super Rugby. The Pumas are basically the Jaguares bar one player, and they couldn't even finish second in their Conference. Having the same team playing together under two different jerseys for 8 months of the year will make any team stale imo.

They will not be able to compete against the other teams until they have all their best players playing for them.

@akan004 I think the plan for them is to have thier best players playing in Argentina, otherwise the NH clubs are not obliged to release them for this period are they?

@taniwharugby Not sure, you may be right.

Having said that, SA haven't had issues selecting players from the North though over the last few years for the RC. I don't know how the club structure works up North tbh.

If they are going to continue with this policy, they need to push for another Super team and select from two teams a la the Aussie model from the 80s.

There aren't a lot of Argentinians playing overseas. But three of them could be valuable additions to the Pumas team : Facundo Isa (Nr.8), Juan Imhoff (wing) and Figuallo (THP). Plus maybe Fernandez (Clermont) as a backup for Sanchez.

Agreed. This is pretty much how good Argentina can be.

Not so sure. All Blacks are a class above. Reckon the Boks probably have 2nd place locked up, with maybe a closer loss to the ABs in the Republic vs the one in NZ

Yeah I'd bet on us. But you can't take much from Saturday - Aussie defence was woeful.

That Boks pack dominated the set-piece, handily won the tackle & ruck area, Jantjes kicked 7/7 and they scored 4 tries, including from some entertaining back play.

NZ have lost the 2nd half of their last 3 matches apparently, bench wasn't too flash, and I personally thought McKenzie was a bit at sea at times at the back - mistake free is the number one requirement of an international FB IMHO.

Boks have a good pack, in particular Jaco Kriel is a more than decent 6/7 and their 9 Cronje delivers decent swift ball, and takes good options.

Their outside backs are probably suspect on defence, Raymond Rhule in particular can be a turnstile, but I'm expecting the game in SA to be potentially close. Someone described the Boks as just the Brumbies reinvented, which I think is off the mark myself, but we see.

Marcelo Bosch's form can't have dropped off a cliff? He was their best player a couple of years ago. Isa isn't exactly a small loss either.

    @Bones
Their midfield is not their biggest problem. They need a better front row (Ayerza was a big loss after the WC) and forwards that can break tackles.

@cgrant That's a bit like saying our locks are fine if Retallick or Whitelock weren't there.
